Works on hard surfaces only. They do get bored of it after seeing it for a day, but then we hide it for a day or two and when we pull it back out the cats are into it again. It only moves when it gets bopped from above, and the activation isn't very sensitive. It shoots forward about seven feet, does a little 180° turn and squeaks, then stops until knocked again.I wish there were a setting that kept it moving for a few minutes, because the cats want to stalk it before pouncing, and sometimes lose interest because it stops so soon. It does go through the battery somewhat quickly, so plan to buy some extras if your cat likes it.Not very sophisticated, but it's a nice hands-off option to offer the cats when I'm too tired/busy to play with them with a wand toy.

It does not work on carpet!! Great on hard floors but since our house is filled with rugs except the bathrooms and kitchen, it was sadly a bust.

We liked it that they came with batteries. kept one for our kitty and gave the other to our sister's kitty. The one we kept worked as soon as we put the battery in and turned it on. It runs straight until it hits an obstacle, stops, does a turn and stops until it's touched again. Our kitty played with it for a minute and got bored, but that's her. There are toys she loves and there are toys she plays for a second then ignores them and passes them by like they don't exist. Removed a star since the other one that we gave to my sister, she put the battery in, turned it on, nothing! We thought it was the battery, we tried again a few times and finally it started moving but what it does it starts going in a big circle like a tired mouse and stops right there. Doesn't even move like our mouse. The problem may be the battery. Overall, it's nice that they move on their own once turned on and are activated when touched. Oh and neither of them made any sound as it states. Barely audible, had to put an ear to one to hear something.

I got this for my 3 cats thinking how much fun it would be. I saw the comments about the batteries so made sure I had some on hand. After less than an hour the battery it came with was dead. I switched it out. Same thing- hour later battery dead. Now the mouse just sits there chirping, it no longer rolls or moves - even with new batteries. My cats no longer have interest in it because it just sits there chirping. Just a waste of money and now I have a pack of batteries with nothing to use them in, so that's wasted money too.

When you hit it is scurries around for maybe three seconds and then stops, wouldn't be a big deal but it changes directions enough that it doesn't make it very far either.

My cat loves this! It's been a few weeks and she's still playing with it. I was worried that the rather loud sound of the wheels turning would turn off her interest, but it hasn't. I love the fact that the mouse is tall enough that it doesn't end up underneath our furniture/appliances.
