A set up includes an inspection of the instrument, setting neck angles, filing frets oiling fingerboard, new strings, and any other necessary adjustments. This is a really nice, modern, quality instrument. It comes already set up out of the cardboard box and nylon carry-bag it came with. It's well finished, and with a tune up, and a short time to settle, it was ready to play. It has a nice feel and balance, and the sound range is fantastic. With the resonator on, it's well loud enough for playing with a band, and with an open back and the head dampened, I'm getting some nice harmonics and overtones to play with for the more old-time feel.Really pleased with this purchase, and I would recommend it to anyone - certainly to someone new to banjo, as it is versatile and will help you in any style you care to explore.

I'm new to banjo playing but have played the guitar for years. So I can't really compare one banjo from another. Basing this on my guitar experience I will say this. Neck and action is what I'd expect from a quality instrument. Sound is clear and plenty loud. Well crafted. Intonation is spot on and it holds a tune. It's not as fancy looking as some of the cheaper ones I looked at but I bought this to play, not display. The seller is excellent and shipping was right on time until it got to FEDEX in Williston, VT. It took longer from them to deliver it the last 35 miles than it did to go across country. Not the sellers fault. So if you live anywhere near Williston, beware. Ask the seller to use UPS.

I'm a brand new player I was recommended this buy a professional he said best bang for your buck you don't have to spend a fortune on one. My experience with it great no complaints. feels soild YES the resonoater comes off the back from the silver screw. It's is very easy to fret you don't have to press hard it looks very nice and is loud enough for everyone to hear and if you need it to be quite for practice in the house I take the back off pack it with a old hoodie or something out the back on and play all I want without worrying about being loud

Great Banjo, and what a price. It feels and plays like a much more expensive banjo, howbeit much lighter. I also have a Gold Tone OB250 (Great).

I opened my box and the Gold Tone AC-5 Banjo had a cracked composite tone ring close to the neck. I would never have noticed this if I didn't take the back resonator off to inspect the Banjo. I am returning this product immediately for a full return. Next time I will make sure to purchase a wooden Banjo, or just stick to guitar. I would like to add that inside the box were no warranty papers or documentation from Gold Tone at all. Just a Banjo, and a soft case in a box, inside another box.This model is advertised as being durable. I would disagree with that claim from Gold Tone.

Great travel banjo. Light weight with good volume so I can hear my playing while jamming with a group. Removable resonator brings the volume down a bit for practicing. I was surprised by the quality of sound for the price.
