First off, great instrument!! It's really fun to play in the mandolin range but using regular guitar chords. My big fingers have a hard time with chords on a regular narrowly spaced mandolin.For those complaining about strings, this is not technically a mandolin. Mandolins have 4 pairs of strings, for a total of 8. These have either 6 or 12 strings (depending on which one you get), so they use regular light gauge guitar strings.

Excellent product - love the F6 Mando-Guitar. Would have given it 5-stars, but it arrived with a broken high E string - hard to play with only 5 strings.

This is SUPER annoying... One of the high e strings broke right out of the box. I have been doing research to try and figure out what to use as a replacement. Several sites that sell mandolin strings SPECIFICALLY STATE that ordinary mandolin strings don't work with this instrument... I looked at the string sizes and it says the e string is .008, so I bought one (7 bucks for one string), have no idea if this string will work. WHY wouldn't they have a set of strings for this instrument that is easy to find and buy and know it is the right replacement string??? CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME???

It is a great instrument. Plays very well. Gave it a 3 star only because of the lack of availability to buy strings. Can only really get them from the gold tone website, and sometimes they are out of stock. So beware that though it is great quality instrument, you may have to go a week or two with a broken string until gold tone re stocks.
