To be clear, we can spend $100's/$1000's on a great ribbon mic. I am reviewing this has a sonically lovely microphone, with unknown reliability. I won't tell myself or anyone that this is a bullet proof tool, that works for everything. This is a tube ribbon mic at the lower end price point of decent ribbon mics. The fact that you could find a 50% reduction in price, actually doesn't make me sure of anything. It's truly possible that I'll be taking this mic and power supply to my tech at some point. But this is a review of the here and now. From that perspective, this microphone can bring sweet soft clean signals into your DAW or interface. You'll be faced with the qualities of your content as your only consideration.Meaning you can't blame the microphone for hurting your recording. I've used this microphone as a vocal mic, a room mic, an acoustic nylon string guitar mic, and as an electric guitar cabinet mic. I can now predict that whatever you're capable of performing, will be 100% preserved. I hope this helps you. But please remember that I have no predictions for reliability or longevity. This is one of those"it works great for now" reviews.Said another way, why are there so many of these refurbs available? This is a perfect purchase for someone that has many mics, and is looking to supplement their sonic palette. If I had to advise a single microphone purchase, it would be dual diaphragm condenser that is linear across the 20-20K bandwidth. They are in the minority, because most cheap condenser mics are hyped in the treble response. But the linearity is critical. This mic is linear up to 18K, and it can take a hearty 165db of SPL.Nothing is hyped. Adding this mic as a wonderful addition to an already diverse mic locker is a perfect fit for this mic. Remember that it will need a robust microphone stand.
