I'm truly impressed at the quality if this screen. I've compared product reviews for a lot of these on Amazon, trying to find the right one for my fire pit. While on a kayaking trip, I got a phone call from my Amazon delivery driver telling me that the original package had been damaged in their facility and wanted to know if I still wanted it (amazing service btw) and I approved it knowing I would probably do some assembly and modification anyway. When I got home I found it repackaged in a new box and today I had the chance to open it up and it was in perfect condition! The double layered and welded frame wasn't bent anywhere and the thin guage steel screen was in perfect shape. On top of that, it was fully assembled (which may have been listed in the item description but I don't remember) and i can tell it was done so with care.As a steel worker, I can tell that these welds will hold up nicely too. It's simple, but we'll built, and it'll make a nice addition to my backyard!I expect that the paint will chip over time (which is perfectly reasonable for outdoor equipment that will be regularly exposed to high levels of heat and cold) but I already have a can of black heat resistant ceramic paint to touch it up as needed. I recommend that anyone using this product with or without a steel fire ring in their pit keep a can of fire resistant spray paint as well.

I wanted a cover for my 40” fire pit since we get some breezes/winds where the pit is located. The 29” fits the opening perfectly. It is heavy duty and well made. I like the domed shape also. Can’t comment on the usage yet as have had snow since Thanksgiving so can’t use it yet.

The hinged dome spark screen sits on the grate, not the copper pan of the fire pit pictured with it, just for clarification, fitting inside those 4 little fingers sticking up from the grate, thus holding it securely even when I rather roughly tossed the hinged part through its arc during our first fire. The front half of the screen slides up and over, into the back half of the screen, and it moves easily. The screen stopped major sparks, but did let tiny ones through, especially through the open space under the top/back half and above the lower/front half. So to be safe here in tinder-dry country, we'll only burn wood in it after the rains have dampened the wildlands nearby. We had one rainy evening and got to try it out thanks to the rain. I'm actually considering getting the extra-large size dome screen available elsewhere (wish Amazon would carry it) to put on top of the large size one for double coverage and then maybe we could enjoy this pretty fire pit even now in the dryest part of the year. Not sure what CalFire would say about that. It might just fit, though, since the large screen actually measures 1.5 inches less in diameter than the 30.5" listed (that measurement includes the 1.5" handle) and so I imagine the x-lg screen, listed at 37" is probably truly 35.5" in diameter, which is exactly the actual width of the size large fire pit listed at 36".The screening material did sort of wither inwards in one area, about 6" in diameter, during our first and only fire so far. Still fully functional, even so. Don't know what that indicates for future longevity.

I was planning to put together a fire pit and wanted to make sure I do it safely, responsibly and to the code. So I reached out to 2 of my friends who are firefighters to get some advice and they both insisted on a fire pit screen. If you are constructing a fire pit in your backyard or just make a nice little fire you need a way to stop the larger glowing pieces of charcoal from flying out of the fire and into the surrounding area. Most glowing red dots that you see coming out of your fire are harmless and fizzle out before they are cold enough to get to the ground. but the larger pieces that shoot out of the fire with those snap sounds generally land on the ground near dry grass, tents or people's clothes and continue to glow and burn for a few seconds. This mesh is designed to stop those bigger ones and I saw this in action when the large pieces of glowing wood were getting stuck to the mesh and burn until they were small enough to make it through. and once they were that small the went out before they came anywhere near the ground. This one gets the job done very well. it is nice well constructed and heavy with good protective coat of paint. it does get very warm since it sits right on top of the flames but it comes with a metal fork to open and close it.This is a really good way of ensuring your fun recreational activity does not become a life threatening house fire.

The lifter never came with the screen. I called customer service and am waiting to hear back. No luck so far. The screen was bent upon arrival and was not perfectly circular. The screen then does not sit flush with the surface of the fire pit. This leaves gaps on two areas where the hinges are for hot particles not to be contained by the screen. As I wanted the screen for containment, U’m not pleased. Not sure about quality and durability yet. Time will tell. Not a good value for the money in my opinion. Esthetics are good. Easy to install, but isn’t sturdy on top of the fire pit. Any movement would knock the screen off. Convenient hinged opening for access to add wood, but when it’s hot I’m going to need fire resistant gloves to handle the screen to make sure it doesn’t fall

This cover is more oval than round. You have to open the screen before you lift it off the firepit as it swings open rather than staying closed. Its quite heavy duty, the lift prong works well and is quite heavy duty as well. Our pit is 23" circumference and we purchased the 25" so there isn't a lot of margin of error in size. I have tried to "squeeze" the screen into a rounder shape as the oval clears the firepit opening only on the 2 sides.

This is a great cover, and functions well HOWEVER it didn’t fit our 30” fireplace ring at all. Luckily my husband is handy and welded washers to our ring to allow the cover to sit on and still be functional.
