Compared to standard materials, you'll hear crystal clear bell-like high end, big open lows, and a noticeable increase in overall sustain. Unlike natural materials such as bone and ivory, TUSQ is consistent from piece to piece. Without a doubt, this is the best synthetic material on the market, and it cuts and files beautifully.

This is a great product... Really there's only a couple "tricks" to getting it perfect... You have to know whether you need the flat bottomed version or the rounded one... I used this GraphTech Tusq nut on my first mod project, a 2011 CXS Squier SE "Strat"... My particular guitar requiers the flat bottom type... I was able to quickly and easily find out which of the 2 available types my guitar requiered online... When it arrived the pre-slotted nut was perfect... They leave them just a tad taller so you can sand them down easily for a PERFECT fit... And since I didn't know exactly what height I needed, I simply used the old nut as a guideline and sanded this one down (on 100 grit sandpaper) til it matched as closely as I could get it... After it was installed, I was AMAZED at what a difference it made... Not just in tone, which was noticably better, but it really helped with tuning stability, AND with an intonation issue I was having... I had the saddles back almost as far as possible and was still fretting sharp at the 12th fret, and as soon as this TUSQ nut was installed, the intonation was a breeze to adjust... Made WAY more of a difference than what I previously thought... I'd HIGHLY recommend this product as a simple mod for beginning "modders" and casual players... If you want GREAT tone, and a nut that frees just about all friction (because these are infused with Teflon and are self lubricating) give these a shot... Pair it with the GraphTech string trees for even less of a chance of string binding... ANYWHERE...

I have bought this same graph tech nut for all my fenders and a few other brand guitars. I have used it on a handful of strats, a player series tele, a player series jazzmaster, a few squiers, and a bunch of g&l legacy style guitars including a s500 and comanche. None of them have been direct fits, and all require some shaping with sandpaper. The string spacing is slightly smaller than OEM fenders, but that has always been a good thing for me because I hate when the high e string is too close to the edge. Besides sanding the sides down, you also have to sand down about 1/3 from the bottom of the nut. This is probably what takes the longest. Not only that, but you will also have to sand the bottom center to give it the same fretboard radius shape. If you dont do this, the edges will not touch the fretboard, and you will be able to wiggle the nut left and right. It just takes a little extra sanding. And you have to be extra careful not to remove too much material because then you can ruin the nut. Its all a matter of patience, but it will eventually pay off if you do it right. This nut doesnt bind or ping like the oem synthetic materials. Overall, this is a great nut, but it does require some work. Its kinda like replacing old strings. Takes a few minutes of work, but will be worth it at the end.

I used this on a 2004 Indonesian made Squier Affinity. A bit alarmed when I tore open the package and saw how long and tall the Graph Tech nut was. It also made my string spacing wider by about 1/16 inch. I just figured what the heck and sanded away at it until it matched the one I'd pulled from the Strat. I love it, could be the placebo effect but I swear I can hear more clarity and sustain. Either way, for the price this is WAAAY better than the cheapy hollow plastic nut that came on my Squier. Do a little experiment and tap the Graph Tech against your counter, it dings like ceramic. Now tap your current cheap one... A dull thud... Plastic. This is fun DIY upgrade that personalizes your axe and makes a big difference. Now for the acoustic...and the bass...and the ukelele...and the...harp?

Says it's for a Strat, and come pre-slotted, but neither is technically true. It was way too wide for my neck, and the string slots are not cut very deep at all. I had to shave about 3mm off either side to fit it to the neck, shave about 2mm off the bottom to get it low enough, and then file the string slots a good amount to get the action down to a usable height.Quality is good, and I really like it (after all the work done to it), but the description needs to be updated to reflect that it's more of a "one-size-fit-all" part that will need modification to fit in order for it to earn 5 stars.

Throughout the years I've used different types of nuts but several years ago I started using graphite nuts on almost all my guitars (electric and acoustic). I've used different brands, but now I only use the Tusk Graphtechs because they're slipperier and make the guitar's tone better than anything else I've ever used. Many people don't think about this, but almost every part of a guitar affects the tone, no matter how insignificant it may seem. Now, PAY CLOSE ATTTENTION TO THIS....Graphtec makes their Tusk nuts for almost every guitar on the market and each one is designed for a specific guitar. On their website, they have a chart of which nut fits a specific guitar. Make sure you get the exact one or you'll be doing a lot of time consuming fine sanding and filing to get the right fit. I've found this to be even more so for Fender Strats because of their 9.5 fretboard radius. One thing a lot of people aren't aware of is that Strat nut slots have the same radius. To be even more specific, American Standard and MIM Strats are quite different and one won't fit correctly in the other. A few months ago, I was replacing the nut in a Mexican Strat for someone. He bought one for an American Standard and the size wasn't even close. I advised him to return it for the correct sized one because it would cost him a lot more if I had to spend several hours sanding and filing it to fit correctly because its a huge pain in the ass as the specs need to be just right for a correct fit and i would have had to charge more than the actual price of a new nut to do it As far as the nuts themselves, they are the best I've ever used and I'm going to eventually put them on all my guitars. Again, before you purchase one, go to the Graphtec website and make sure you get the exact one for your particular guitar.
