  • It is slightly less - by 1 to 2 thread widths - than a quarter inch to compensate for the thread and fold.

  • When you press your seams open, the thread and fold add a bit to the width you sewed. To compensate, you sew slightly less than a quarter inch - a scant - so your seams come out a full quarter inch.

  • Our seam guide setter makes setting the guide a breeze, replacing the tricky process of inserting the needle into a small hole with a simple hook and slot that holds the guide for you, removing all the guesswork.

  • The seam guides themselves will last for months, but as for the adhesive, it depends on how often you take them on and off. See the next question below to make them last longer if you have a top-loading bobbin

  • No. You can cut the seam guide in half where your bobbin case cover opens. That way, you can pop the cover with half of the seam guide on it, and when you put the cover back on, the seam guide will still be in place.

The guide hooks onto your needle to allow you to place the guide strips onto your sewing machine for accurate scant 1/4" seams. Since the device will pivot around your needle, you have to make sure that it is perfectly perpendicular facing into your machine before sticking the guide strips down, otherwise they could be at an angle.I had to cut the strips due to the area for placing the strip went over the bobbin cover. One piece is on the bobbin cover the other piece is below it.

I do a lot of quilting. My machine has a plastic case and there’s only a small area by the needle that shows a quarter inch mark. I put this down and it has extended the quarter inch guideline so it’s so much easier to quilt. Love it. Definitely recommend.

I used it sewing some project bags on an old machine that has no guide lines. It worked great.

Works great for keeping your fabric straight when lining up edges.

This is good for someone who only sews straight lines. It's too much trouble to take on and off and doesn't stick well.

Well, let me tell you…I’m a little type A with my seams allowances. I usually use a magnet to help with maintaining an accurate seam allowance. The only problem with the magnet is that woven fabric rides up the side of the magnet. I saw these being used in a YouTube video and thought they looked a little questionable for accuracy. I decided to order and give it a shot. I used one today. The package included a setting ruler. I used the ruler as described in the instructions and sewed a test seam. The seam was too shy of a 1/4”. So I ended up using my seam setting ruler that came with my magnet to place the guide. After another test seam, the seam was a perfect scant 1/4”.I probably should give the rating a 4 star, but in my mind, I was more interested in using the guide than the ruler to place it. I sewed 82 seams today and that little guide stayed put. It did not move or loosen. This worked better than painters tape ( I’ve tried that trick too).If you want an accurate seam and your current method isn’t working, you may want to consider this guide. I will definitely order more when needed.
