I've been wanting to teach myself welding for years. I saw this, and saw it had a lot of good reviews, and it was cheap enough that if it turned out bad I wouldn't be out too much. Well, it turned out to be pretty good! I bought some 7018 rods and got some scrap steel and started playing. (NOTE: I also bought - separately - a good welding helmet, some welding gloves, some steel spring-loaded clamps, etc.)I played around with the current settings and striking the arc. Found the sweet spot for these rods around 83 Amps. I have no technique to speak of yet, but the unit functioned well enough and was forgiving enough of my total lack of experience that I was able to walk in both current and feed rate so by the tail end of my first rod I had found a groove and made some welds that actually looked "ok" and held well against me trying to break/pry them apart (couldn't.)The unit comes with cables only, you'll need everything else. Remember two things: This unit welds at an open-circuit voltage of 62 Volts DC. You CAN electrocute if you're not very careful. And be sure to get a real welding helmet with the rapid-response auto-darkening lens to help you avoid flash burns and skin damage from UV (I watched a friend weld about 40 years ago, from about 10 feet away, with no eye protection. Had to go to the hospital early the next morning because of corneal flash burns. Don't let that happen!)If you need a very light-weight, small, portable little welder, or if you're just starting out and want something inexpensive to try your hand with, this is a great starter unit.

From the first second after powering up this welder and striking an arc, I'm impressed. Size, ease of use, cost and duty cycle... all wins.This little bugger burned an 1/8 stick into 3/32 angle iron without any issue.Deep penetration, smooth welds, easy arc striking.As an old hand (35+ years) at welding, I can't express enough how impressed I am. Buy one, you'll love it.

I bought this to learn to arc weld and to have a stick welder for small jobs. I was very skeptical, but it performs very well. I am a beginner welder but i have been able to get very good beads with this unit after some practice. 2 things could be better (minus 1 star): the holder doesn't seem to grab on as tightly as I would like (maybe its normal); the duty cycle seems low, after 1 full stick the unit tripped my circuit breaker, this happened several times, after cooling down the unit picked back up just fine. If you need to do a lot of welding this isn't for you, but for small projects, short welds with time in between rods, it should do what you want. I am pleased overall.

Purchased this to recondition sulfated batteries. Fast shipping as Amazon always delivers. Unit is tiny and very portable. Paid for itself 3 times over with the 1st battery I was able to recondition for my skid steer. It works so well I decided to use it on a small welding project I had. Multiple passes and honestly I expected to overload and trip this lil guy out. Nope! The candle stayed a burnin' and the metal a meltin'. Great Deal! Great Unit! I bought one for odd n' ends at work. That's how impressed I am with this lil welder.

I'm amazed for such a small little rig. I gotta say so far I'm impressed with the 3/32 rod just playing around and good penetration.

Seems to work very good. Very happy how portable this welder is. Looks be well made. The dial to set your amps is a little touchy. Had it for year and still working.

Received the welder today which was purchased for a Christmas gift. When I opened it to inspect the item I found that a used item had been shipped to me. The stick holder is scuffed and worn out.
