I have tried to start a weight lifting routine most of my adult life. I’ve taken classes, gone to the gym with friends, tried a patronizing trainer. Nothing worked. Now- 65 workouts later, I’m proud to say I have a weight lifting routine. This book shows you what to do and how to do it every workout. It is very very easy and motivating. Now that I’ve finished the book- I’ve started it over- and seeing what I can do compared to where I started is very encouraging. This book helps you track your progress, it has alternate workouts when you don’t have the suggested equipment, it links to videos that show you the correct form. Cheaper than a trainer- and I’ve made much more use of this book. Can’t recommend this strongly enough! I’ve also purchased their nutrition journal- and highly recommend that as a companion to this one.

I got this book last year and it sort of sat on my bookcase during this time. I finally weighed in and realized I had to make some changes. I decided to learn more about my calories and macros, and use this book as a guide to start my weightlifting journey. Let me tell you. This book is FANTASTIC. It has a lot of useful information up front and throughout. The workouts themselves are as difficult as you want them to be... meaning, they give you the workout, and you just have to show up and make it happen. they make it easy to track how you were doing in a previous workout compared to your current one, and guide you every step of the way. I have been doing these workouts 4x a week, watching my calorie intake and increasing my protein for the last 4 weeks, and I lost 6.5lbs of fat in the first 2 weeks (not sure about these last 2 weeks... Im undergoing fertility treatments which I think is messing with me, and Im due for a weigh in). I have already DEFINITELY noticed an improvement in my strength. I'm starting to learn what workouts work out what muscles and its becoming easier to navigate the gym with confidence. For those people who think the book is too big to bring around... I agree, lol, so I take a picture of my workout each day and write on the picture in my photos app on my iphone. I then sit down at the end of the day and write it all in my book, and plan my workouts for the next day. Overall, i'm super happy with this book. I paid for 4 sessions with a personal trainer one month ago, and this book has worked me out harder than she has lol. 10/10 recommend. You really do just have to show up at the gym and let the book guide you for the rest.

I’m a person who likes to journal. I keep a personal journal about my day. This “workout” journal is new to me. I’ve been working out for over 40 years now and have tried different workouts. I enjoy the classes they offer at my gym, but sometimes the timing isn’t good for me.This journal allows me to have a plan and work it from the moment I enter the gym. At first, I thought it was going to be too easy, but sticking to the exercises they lay out has been challenging. My body feels great and I get a good pump.I would recommend this journal if you’re looking for some personal accountability.Good Health to all.

This is a straight-forward plan that you can use many times per week to get you into the gym with a plan. It's so easy to obsess over how often to work out, how many reps to do, etc ... this book is an encouraging and educational guide even for those of us who have worked with personal trainers in the past.I mix this with other workouts (running and TKD classes), filling in 2 or 3 strength-training days each week. The workouts target few muscle groups at a time, which allows for back-to-back days if that's what works in the schedule for the week, but over the weeks, I think you'll hit every major group. It's a great way to overcome the challenge of programming your own workouts and get you into the gym more regularly!!

I have used this journal every day since I got it. As a long past weight trainer, this was just what I needed to guide me through various body parts and build up some muscles that have been awol for a long time. I had some concerns that I had been taught not to work with weights more than 2-3 times a week, but I think this system works - I go to my gym every day now. I feel that my muscles get enough rest in between workouts. The book is a bit weak on leg workouts but I do other things for my legs and the upper body stuff is what I was lacking. I’m very pleased.

I used to teach kickboxing but lost interest and wanted to find a new way to exercise that I'd enjoy. I'd never had an interest in weight lifting but toning was one of my goals.I'm 3 weeks in and haven't lost any weight according to the scale but I have lost an inch here or there. I think I'll start to see more results once I get my eating under control but for the most part I have been consistent and am enjoying the changes I feel in my body.Pros:- Organized exercises- Great explanations of good vs. bad form- Has alternatives exercises to choose from to work the same part of the body if you're uncomfortable with the one listed- Sets expectations at the beginning of the book with explanation of diet and exercise working hand in handCons:- I don't really want to carry a book in the gym so I take pictures of the workouts and fill in the info later

I was at first really apprehensive about ordering this book but ended up going for it. At $50 it's pricey but after getting it and reading it over, looking at the workouts and looking at the links they give you for the workout movements, I think its money well spent. Did my first workout yesterday and wow, are my muscles sore. I'm the type of person that likes working out but I'm crap at remembering a workout plan, so the book is a great size to bring to the gym and look at if you forget what to do. It gives good tips to have the proper form on almost every page. It also gives some nutrition advice which is a nice bonus. I like that the cover is a muted browny grey colour so it's not super conspicuous when you've got it in the gym, though you shouldn't care if people look or not. Those who fail to plan, plan to fail.and

This workout guide is amazing, before I bought this book I wouldn’t have a clue where to start! I would just turn up to the gym and hope that the piece of equipment was free that I needed. The beginning of the book is full of educational information that I like to re read when I need motivation. The workouts are awesome! The pictures are amazing, very helpful for form and if you need, there is also a link to follow. It is the ultimate beginners guide! I love it.The book itself is great quality. Hard back so it can handle to trip to and from the gym everyday (give or take a day/weekend here or there).I will most certainly be buying Volume 2!

I was looking for a well laid out guide to follow - that was not an app.... I wanted to go to the gym, see my workout and follow it. I didn't want to aimlessly wander around the gym thinking about what machines to use. I was hesitant to purchase this at first because of the price, but it was well worth it! My partner and I go and do the exercises together. Its perfect! Highly recommend. We save big bucks since we don't have to go to expensive boot camp gyms. I wanted to do my own version on my own time. Awesome gym guidebook.
