I have used this for 3 years now and don't know what I would do without it! It is a large Rekenrek so entire class on carpet can easily see the visual. It has been very sturdy. This year a few of the silver rods are starting to come out of holes so I will need to figure out a repair. Mostly teacher hands have touched this - not students. Only a few invited students use this as a resource with me close by. Students can have their own smaller version.

As a 1st grade teacher, I had tried many tools to help kids visualize quantities. This tool is by far the best. Kids can quickly moved over groups of tens and ones - with no fumbling around with loose counters that can fall on the floor or be played with by the kids. This tool is well constructed and withstood a complete school year with heavy use by 21 students in my class.

This was a good size for classroom use and seems to be sturdy. I start teaching in 2 weeks but it should work well in my 2nd grade class.

I was very excited for my Rekenrek to arrive because i'm the math coordinator of a school. I'd envisioned using it with children individually and in small groups-- showing teachers how to use it to deepen number sense in their K-2nd graders. It arrived cracked with loose metal rods so the beads would fall off. I tried securing it -- but it was too damaged.I think this is an excellent product--that's why I've given it 5 stars. it's just that mine arrived cracked and unusable for the purpose I needed. I'll be returning it for another with hopes that it's not damaged.

I have NEVER given a product a one star review and I have bought hundreds of items through Amazon. I didn't take this product out of the box until last week because I wasn't teaching the math unit with my class until today. I took it out of the box and started using it. When I moved the rekenrek closer to me, the top bar that holds the first set of ten beads popped out of the hole. I picked up the rekenrek by the sides to put the metal bar back in the hole and next thing you know, all the bars with the beads are popping out and the beads are falling all over the place. Even though I only opened the box recently, I can't return it because I missed the 30 day deadline ( I bought it the first day of school-like 32 days ago). It's either defective or a piece of junk. It shouldn't fall apart the way it did. There should be an offer to replace it.

I really like the size and ease of use of this product, but as mentioned, it does come unglued easily as well as the student tools. Buy a bottle of ELMER's wood glue. When mine came apart in class, a white and red bead were lost. I would appreciate if I could rcv or have the opportunity to purchase new beads. I have made this request before, with no response and I've searched the web on trying to find others. Any advice here would be helpful.
