I like that it fits on my heavy duty desktop tripod, and affords me easy macro focusing in a small package. I didn't like that the controls are a bit small and a bit too tight (hence the loss of a star.) Especially the camera release knob - it could have been a little longer, AND the jaws could have been made to open a millimeter or more wider. I found it necessary to remove one of the stop bolts (an allen wrench was provided in the box) to then slide the rail onto my Arca lock on the tripod's ball head. This is contrary to the reviews that said it didn't fit. It fits, but you need to slide it on. Fortunately I won't need to take it on and off, since the tripod is dedicated to macro photography. This product is almost there, and well worth the seventy five bucks.

I've only used as a couple of times maybe a handful five or six if you're luckyIt takes a little getting used to for the fine tuning and with my eyes it's not easy at all even through live view but I have managed to pick and get a few good ones

I purchased this rail for macro photography, and the gears are not smooth, and the machining is not precise, so when you go to move the camera forward or backward, the entire camera setup rotates left and right. The movement forward and backward is also not smooth. Was really bummed out.

Well built, the slider moves smoothly and precisely. The Arca dovetail groove works with both my MeFoto travel tripod (with built in Arca ball head plate) and Sirui Arca Style ball head. Also works with a Gorillapod via the 1/4" screwhead. Met all my needs. Highly recommended.

Dovetail does not fit standard Arca Swiss mount. They seem to have made the dovetail too large and it does not fit my Arca Swiss mount. I had to return the item. Save yourself the headache and don't buy this item. It's a shame because otherwise it seems like a nice unit. When you move the rail it does have a scraping sound, so that's not so good either.

I was looking for a focus rail with Arca style clamp and found this product. It is solidly built, is rather heavy, and sits perfectly on another Arca style head. It also locks the camera or lens plate well. You may need a good quality tripod head to connect this one to it. I used this to capture picture of ice crystals. A sample image is attached. There are two minor concerns though: first, the lock knob for the camera is quite hard to be reached and can only be tightened when the clamp is at the very end of the rail. The second concern is about precision of the control mechanism. The camera moves more than a 2cm per 180 degree rotation of the focus knob, i.e. travels the whole length of the rail in just 5 twists, which is high and makes it rather difficult to control the precise movement of the camera. Overall a keeper and I can recommend it for macro photography.

Because of the thread pitch it is not easy to make precise adjustments. The rail moves too far for the slightest movement on the thumb turn. Its a solidly made item thoughTried it, returned it. Not precise enough
