We like these bookends. They are nice and thin, so they don’t take too much room, but hold books in place. We like these bookends pattern as well.

My daughters wanted "pretty" book ends for the shelves in their room, these definitely do the trick, and the extras look good on the piano holding those books in place. Love the variety of patterns (each person could pick their favorites) and they don't scratch or rub on more delicate surfaces. Can be bent out of shape more easily than I'd like, and they have no support on the outside, so they can be tipped over or pushed more easily than other styles of bookends, but as long as the kids are relatively responsible with use, they'll last for as long as we need. It's nice to have a variety of styles, and these don't leave any unused space if placed at the very edge of a shelf. Good for light duty, decorative book ends, would not recommend for heavy duty use.
