I am very, very pleased with this plate setter lifter. The idea is so obvious -- once you use one -- that this thing should be sold with every plate setter. It is absolutely ideal for the "reverse sear" technique: smoke at low temp, remove the hot plate setter, open the vents and sear. I can use it regardless of the orientation of the plate setter. When the legs are pointing up, you can just place the lifter tangentially to the curve of the plate setter base and rotate it 90 degrees to get a grip.I have a large egg, and the handle pretty much lines up over the center of the plate setter.The build quality is good. the lifter is made of some very thick metal (don't know what kind). the handle doesn't get hot -- I can bare hand it. The coating on the metal seems thick and sturdy; corrosion shouldn't be a problem.Just get one.

Works perfect and keeps me from breaking another deflector for my BGE by trying to balance on edges while adding smoking wood or more lump charcoal while hot. Must have device. I don't like putting my thick heat gloves on all the time so this is a quick and easy way to handle the deflector

I have the XL Big Green Egg and like another reviewer, the top portion does not extend far enought to balance the plate when lifting. its weight is off center and you need some strength to place the plate and remove it. The picture is of a smaller plate. Well made and it will do the job.

This has probably been the only reason I haven't dropped my Setter or have it crack when setting it down on a cooler surface when hot. I've held my hot Setter with one hand while adding lump with the other. It's solid, safe, and a tool I use constantly.

Works great when you need it. Seems a bit pricey for what you get but it appears to be more sturdy than the competitors models. I would hate to drop and break the place setter using a flimsy one.

The round handle has corroded badly. Used once and pulled it out today to use tonight. I keep it outside inside a storage cabinet. Might understand rust, but not what has happened.See Pic Below

Exactly what I needed. I like to add smoking woods to my BGE after the coals are glowing a bit. I can lift my Plate Setter and insert at will. No more burnt gloves or hands for that matter. I have a cast Iron Plate Setter and it handles it easily. Egg On!!!!

Well made but not functional. The width of the BGE plate setter is far less than this devices "gap", meaning picking up or moving a plate setter with this is risky business. In fact, mine slipped out and broke in half because this is poorly designed. There are better, more stable lifters out there. Don't by this for your BGE.
