Be sure to pull the feet out to full extension. When fully and properly extended, the stand's footprint is just over 13 inches. Under *most* circumstances, one of the feet would actually have to break off before the flute would fall over. This fits perfectly in my Gemeinhardt's B foot joint and lets me use my leather Gemeinhardt case without having to resort to a more utilitarian (and ugly) case cover.I love it!

Arrived on time in packed well, in perfect condition.Like it a lot, it's stable on the ground, length when opened up and extended is longer then the B foot so that support is solid. Fit is just the right tightness. When it's folded up and the extension is slid down to the B foot length, it easily fits inside the foot at the exact length so there is no intrusion in the case. Fit, again, is such that there is no vibration.Only concern is it feels a little fragile with its light weight parts, wonder how long it will last, since I'm frequently folding and unfolding it. Not heavy-duty like the Hercules sax stands I use. But, no evidence yet of any possible trouble.

Hercules' regular flute stand is the sturdiest one I know (I own both the 1-peg and 3-peg versions), which was why I picked up this one when I was looking for a lighter/smaller version to carry in my flute bag. However, while it is indeed very compact and can actually fit inside the dissembled flute foot joint (so you don't need to have any extra space), it is unfortunately not something I'd want to use - the reasons being:1. It takes several steps and both hands to set up - while not exactly complicated to do, I'd describe it more as fiddly and can be a hassle to put together when you already have your flute out of the case and just need a place to set it down quickly.2. Once set up with all the pieces fully extended (btw there is nothing that "clicks into place" or gives any sort of tactile feedback), the stand still feels to springy to my liking - the legs aren't at straight angles, the peg doesn't point straight up, and my flute sitting on it would kind of wobble a bit. I don't think it's actually in danger of falling over, but it just doesn't feel very secure/stable.So let's not compare this one to the hefty regular Hercules stands that I keep at home... after all, the point of this travel stand is its compactness. However, just comparing this one to a freebie no-brand stand that a friend lets me borrow (he got it with a cheapo flute), the no-brand mini stand is actually superior in that it's easier/faster to set up and feels sturdier. That one does not fit inside the flute foot joint though, so I'm still in search of the perfect flute stand for travel. If I had to pick one right now, that no-brand mini stand definitely wins over this Hercules travel stand.

Bought it to take on site. Worried that it looked too flimsy to do the job (keeping the flute upright and safe from accidental nudges. On assembly, I put it on the floor and I still wasn't sure. That is, until I put my flute on it. The weight of the flute creates the force required to make the stand more stable. The long spider legs provide a counterbalance for the accidental nudges. Happy fluting!

Favorite thing is how this flute stand fits in the footjoint and thus the flute case. Don't have to remember to grab an extra thing, it's always there.

Holds the flute securely and disappears in the foot joint in the case. Who could ask for anything more

I know...it's marketed for its being 'lightweight', however, the spindly little legs are still a bit flexible on stage or in a pit and the flute could still be toppled. I just wish it were more stable.

It seems too spindly for kids (I teach), but it works, no doubt.
