These gauges are a very nice alternative to the major brands! Purchased on a whim to help me train for my Lvl 2 VT certification and they work great!My company uses the same/similar tools from the main brands to do our official inspections, so I use those while out in the field - but as training aids, these are incredible! The measurements on these match up with the measurements I get on the (far more expensive) company gauges so in theory these should work just fine in the field.I feel like every welder should have a set of these as a standard for pre-evaluating their work before inspection. Would save a LOT of time all around!

When you need to measure things precisely, there's no substitute for a tool like this. The build quality is pretty good, but I don't have a standard of reference to compare it against. The lines on the illustrations of the companion instructions are too thick, rendering the illustrations difficult to interpret. The gauges themselves are stiff in parts and looser in others, suggesting opportunities for improved build quality. However, I don't see any particular reason not to get this if you want to measure welds.

Overall I was impressed with these. It's always nice to add more measurement tools to the arsenal. It's much much better if they're nice tools. These thankfully fit into the high quality category. I've checked quite a few of the dimensions, and they matched the scales I measured with. All the pivots were smooth, and the ability to separate the different pieces with a simple knurled bolt is nice. And finally the pouches, while not the best ever, are a nice touch and should last a reasonable amount of time if you treat them decent (as you should with any measuring tool). Overall, impressed with these, and they're a nice addition to a small/home shop.
