Good quality for the price. Good starting matching to learn the basics and do light metal work.

I can't even do the single thing I purchased it for - which is center drilling requiring either a chuck or collets in the tail stock. Many competitive products of the same lathe ( different colors) come with generous accessories. It has sticky inserts in its base but no feet are supplied.Missing about 1/2 the screws and things in the "user manual".The chuck and tailstock have non-typical thread (m12x.75) which seems unique to this product.Even though the seller cheaped out on accessories, at least he could supply links to sources for needed parts. It's still a pretty lathe. But not at all useful except making pencils or pens

Wish there was a variable speed option but other than that completely satisfied.

Okay, this is a really neat toy, and for some purposes it could be considered a tool. If you need to lathe small plastic or wood objects, this could be very useful. If you want to learn the way of a lathe, it could be useful. But if you want a workhorse machine, this isn't it.It's under-powered, it's very light-duty, and it's miniature.. That said, for the things within it's duty cycle, it works very well.Without load it runs around 15 watts, and ramps up a bit from there if you have your cutting tool engaged. It really is very easy to operate... the hardest part is opening/closing the clamp end... After that, all you have to remember is patience, and presto, you're lathing. Gearing on all the cranks is appropriate for the lathe and it's no problem to find the right speed. As an educational tool, is where this could shine bright. It is already being used to help homeschooling with an introduction to a woodworking tool -- A tool, which can be very dangerous -- but here it is in a much safer, and fun form that you feel comfortable letting children work with. It's sparked a lot of interest too, which keeps them involved!

First off, this thing is tiny so keep that in mind when you purchase as it will have limited usefulness.I decided to try facing some brass as a test and discovered a few quirks about this machine.- the slide screw faces up, which means all the chips from machining fall right into the thread and stick to the grease on the screw (see photos)- the motor sitting on top of the headstock sorta gets in the way for when you want to tighten the chuck- there's probably not enough mass in the whole thing to make for a smooth machine, you can see from my brass that it did not leave a smooth finish. There was some chattering even though I was going at a fairly slow rateI think that this might be ok for make pencils and pens, plastics or wood would probably be better materials to be used on this lathe.
