I've started making my own chicken broth and that is the reason I purchased this skimmer. I am amazed at how great this works and how easy it is to clean. I've put it on the top rack of the dishwasher several times and it looks brand new. This is a perfect skimmer for me and I'm very happy with it's design.

I love to cook Asian recipes, and although I had focused more on dishes cooked in a wok, recently I've started cooking more soups as well, and one of the recommendations in those recipes is to skim off the foam or impurities that float to the surface when boiling meats. In the past I had just used a regular spoon, but it's tedious and trying to just get the "scum" and not any of the soup isn't easy to do sometimes. That's when I looked into skimmers and ran across this one. Yes, it's made in China, and I even read the few reviews from others that mentioned the "screen came loose" on the first use (or shortly thereafter), but I've used mine now for quite a while and have cooked many pots of soup using it, and it hasn't been phased at all. I had read one review where the person said the screen fell out after just picking up a few scallions with it. Well, I wasn't there, but I will truthfully say that I have picked up a very large sweet yellow onion out of the pot with it, as well as hunks of beef short ribs or chicken just to test its durability and it handled it all with ease. What really amazes me though is its ability to skim oil and grease out of the pot as well, allowing the more viscous broth or soup to fall through the screen, but NOT the grease or oil. It does that job sooo well, that when we cook whole cut-up chickens to make our dog's their food (mixed with rice, vegetables and other nutritious ingredients), we no longer have to let the chicken stock cool in the refrigerator to allow the grease to harden before skimming it out of the pot (we boil down the broth to use in the recipe, too). This skimmer does a FANTASTIC job of skimming, and am so glad I purchased it. It's holding up extremely well, does great at skimming foam impurities, and can clear your soup or broth of grease and oil while its cooking, too!! Thank you!!!

I usually despise these specialty kitchen gadgets. In this day and age, they have become essentially disposable. Use them just a few times, before something breaks and has to be thrown away. Which means that cost becomes a big factor, if you are planning on replacing the item every few months. I usually just go to my local chinatown store and pick up a few of these. These have been a surprising revelation. The handle itself, as well as the shaft that leads to the mesh, is made of sturdier stainless steel (rather than light aluminum). The edges are actually polished and smooth, which is quite unusual for these skimmers. I have become accustomed to the handles digging into my palm after skimming a soup for a while, but these are actually comfortable to use. My only knock is the mesh attachment to the base. Others have reported the mesh separating from the base, which I have not experienced. However, wiggling the mesh showed just a little bit of movement, so I am not sure it this will hold up over time. I will say that I have been using these about six months now, and they are still holding up without any problems so far. This is the longest I've managed to keep one of these going, so that's a big plus. I will no doubt go with this again in the future if I need to replace my current one.

I am a mead maker (fermented beverage made from honey.) While I don't boil my honey, I do pasteurize it, which causes the impurities to rise to the surface as thick foam. In the past, I've tried to skim the foam using wooden spoons, ladles, and spatulas. I either miss a lot of the foam or a end up also skimming some of the actual honey. A friend recommended using a fat skimmer. I've used it many times since I purchased it, and it works great. The cooked honey passes right through the mesh which is tight enough to hold the foam. I've been able to double my efficiency. It also fits in the silverware basket in my dishwasher for easy cleanup. The only reason I am not giving it a 5 is because the metal is very thin, and can bend easily if mistreated in the slightest; and the strainer part is fairly small for my needs. Otherwise - works great.

I like to make Cantonese-style bone broth soups and it's difficult to remove the fats & oil that float on the surface of the soup. However, with this tool, it's very easy. I just skim the surface and the oils and fats collect on the strainer. I was able to remove the vast majority of the fats & oils on the surface. The tool is well-made and comfortable to hold. Cleaning it is pretty easy - gentle scrubbing with hot water and detergent does the trick, but if that doesn't get rid of it all, soaking it should get rid of all the residue. This tool is a must-have for anyone who likes to make bone broth based soups.

This Hiware Fat Skimmer Spoon works great. The construction is very sturdy, and made skimming the fat off of my soup so much easier than before(using a metal spoon with ice). It is also very easy to clean. Highly recommended.

With the weather getting colder I've been making a lot of soups, especially bone broth. This is perfect for skimming the gunk out and catches fat and oils amazingly well. I find it really fun and satisfying to scoop out the oil from broth with it. Oil clings really well to it, and it's fun cleaning off the top of the pot. Also love that it's dishwasher safe for easy cleaning. Most recipes called for chilling the broth to let the fat solidify to scoop out but I was able to skip that step with this and my broth didn't have that layer of fat when chilled. A must if you enjoy making soups!

The very fine mesh does work quite well for skimming off fat and impurities. Good tool.

Ha cumplido mis expectativas. La he utilizado para quitar la espuma que produce la carne o el pollo al cocinarse en caldo.

Works very well. I use it to scoop out mince I’ve boiled for my dog. Works well to catch every bit of meat. It can be used for many cooking purposes.
