I like the tool, realizing not everyone else does. However from my aspect it sturdy and easy to use. To remove a broken eyelet I used a screw driver and it worked however the tool is much much better

Need to replace my shock cord on my floppy hatch . Tool doesn't have the depth to do the job . Hobie stuff is expensive but good . First fail with Hobie . I own 2 Hobies .

It had a tendency to slip out of the notches but it did work okay.

Does it's job. Some reviewers say it doesn't grab the screw in fitting tight - they're right, but the flange on those fittings is so thin I don't think one could expect more. Is it absolutely necessary to remove old or place new fittings? Nope. you can screw a new one in with plyers (risk of breaking the eye) and you can either use plyers to remove an existing one, of if the eye is broken off, you can drill the existing one carefully out. (Pick a wood drill bit big enough to get something square/star shaped into the hole to turn it, but not so big that the thread is damaged. easy enough. I choose to try the tool and it worked fine.
