The scraper worked well, though I highly recommended you still use drop cloths if you’re doing this around any carpet or furniture. I was able to remove almost all the disgusting popcorn texture. There’s just a few small, hard to reach places I still need to remove. Those places cannot be removed with this tool. The scraper and bag is a brilliant idea, and I was able to keep the mess to an acceptable level, which is another reason I recommend using drop cloths: Anything in the room will have quite a bit of dust. It would have so much more if not for the bag scraper combo in this tool. All in all, I like the scraper and am very glad I purchased it. It made the job so much easier. Some important tips: The scraper comes with the warning not to remove any asbestos that was done before 1980. Only remove once it’s been tested for asbestos. Make sure you have a ladder, protective goggles, protective clothing (or just clothes you don’t care about), a mask, work gloves, good ventilation, trash bags, and plenty of water. The scraper works best if you wet the popcorn texture before removing it. The bag will get heavy fairly quickly; be sure to empty it often.

It's disgusting work, and I understand why people who take off popcorn ceiling get paid so much, but if you are forced to do it yourself, get this thing. You still have to change the bag regularly because it gets heavy quickly, but I can't comprehend what the mess would have been without it.And for eff’s sake, work it wet (I used a 360-hand sprayer to control the water. If you have to do the whole house, you may want to invest in a pro sprayer.)Also, cover every inch of the room in plastic. I hated having to do it, but I got lazy in a few parts and regretted it. Start cleaning immediately.Watching a few videos online helped. Good luck.

My project was an older home built in the 70's. To use this tool the popcorn ceiling must be very very wet. But if you wet the sheetrock that much you will destroy the paper liner on the sheetrock which creates a even bigger issue when you have to paint the ceiling. This is a good idea that just does not work as intended. I think a newer built home with newer sheetrock and mud on the ceiling might work ok with this tool. Definitely not for painted popcorn ceilings.

This device works very well. It's does not get every bit of popcorn, but it is way less mess!

Bought this to scrap almost 1,000 sq ft of ceiling. I was skeptical, but figured catching some of the debris was better than nothing. I was lucky in the fact that my ceilings were not repainted except for one room. I used this scraper by hand with my head up by the ceiling the entire time; no extension pole. I did this as I didn't want to risk digging into the drywall. It was definitely a lot of up and down the ladder, but the result was worth it. Half the ceiling I did was vaulted (about 12ft high). This thing caught more than I was expecting. I would say it caught 90 - 95% of the popcorn. For my catch bag, I just used a plastic bag from a store (nothing special). I never took the bag off. Instead, I dumped it into a garbage bag. Yes, there was still a fine white powder on the floor, but this is unavoidable unless you somehow use a vacuum at the same time. I still used a plain scraper for the edges and going around fixtures. You could definitely tell where I did this as there was more debris on the floor.I did slightly modify the bar that holds the bag. I bent/bowed it out just a bit so it would hang in front of the scraper more. Upon first use, it appeared to me that the popcorn was going right past the bag. The bar is very rigid, but I only bowed it out maybe an inch total in the middle, probably less. By doing this, the popcorn fell right into the bag. I was also careful not to bow it so much that it made it narrower than the scraper.A little finessing and taking your time goes a long way with this.

Works great on popcorn ceilings and minimizes the mess associated with the cleanup.

The idea is fantastic but in reality it doesn't work. The knife is dull which makes it impossible to scrape off the unpainted wet popcorn texture.I ended up using a drywall knife from the dollar store and worked like a charm.

Works really well at scraping the ceiling and collecting the stipple. Really cuts down on the mess. The trick is to soak the stipple enough. I was using a spray bottle with water to spray the ceiling, it really wasn't working. You need to use a larger backpack sprayer to really apply the water. It will create a mess, but this job is a messy job, you can only try and minimize the mess. With the ceiling soaked enough, it was an easy task with this scraper tool.

Despite the other positive reviews, this product was useless when used on my ceiling. The texture on my ceiling was almost impossible to scrape off with this, as the metal was thin and bent due to the resistance of the material on the ceiling. My ceiling is not painted. I did use it to scrape material up on the floor into a pile and it did work well for that, so i assume if your ceiling material is very light it may work as well as in the demonstration videos.
