This French press is the best French press that I have owned! It has 4 layers of all metal filters that work really well when filtering out coffee/tea. The glass jar body feels sturdy and well made and is even removable! You can remove the glass body by pushing on the glass part on the bottom of the French press (when it is assembled). It's not too tight nor too loose, the fit is perfect. My only gripe is that the exterior steel holder is not dishwasher safe because of the wooden handle. They claim that the exterior steel is "stainless steel" but from what I have noticed, there is some rusting because sometimes water gets trapped between the glass and the steel. The rust is not a big deal since it is just on the holder. Other than that, this is one of the best French presses that I have used by far because of its intuitive design and ease of cleaning. The steel frame has measurements, which is super helpful for times when I want to be more precise with my coffee/tea making. Oh! The bottom of this French press has a non-slip grippy base which is a really nice detail that I don't see many other French presses have. It really is the perfect addition to any coffee lover's kitchen!

Simple, solid French press kit - great instructions. While heating my kettle I did follow the instructions closely. Heated the pitcher with hot water from the tap.Ground my beans to a course grind - courser than any other brewing method. Emptied and dried the pitcher before pouring the grounds in. Poured the water in gently on the side of the warmed pitcher. Put in about a cup and stirred the grounds gently. Waited 30 seconds to let the flavor bloom before pouring the rest of the hot water in with the pitcher at an angle - not directly on the grounds. Set a four minute timer. The beauty of a French press is the coffee brews in the entire reservoir of water, it doesn't just get one pass over the grounds. When it's time, you press the filter down and trap the grounds. What pours out is a smooth, robust cup of coffee. Again, a course ground will avoid the sediment taste or texture.Bottom of the pitcher has a rubber foot - which serves a couple purposes. It doesn't scratch your counter and it acts as a thermal break to avoid wicking heat away from your coffee into the countertop mass.Last thing to talk about is cleanup. Lid and plunger unscrew from the filter components so everything can be cleaned easily. Two stainless steel screens, and a metal frame with integral spring tensioner edge all rinse separately. The glass pitcher fits snug but pushes out of the metal shell pretty easily when you press up through the hole in the bottom. Instructions recommend you wash them separately. Handle is bamboo, looks durable.Very pleased with this, though it's my first French press kit. Compared to pour over, air press, or other methods of slow brewing coffee, the French press excels at making 2-3 cups of coffee at the same time. The one thing about French press coffee that keeps it from being my every day first choice is the cleanup. Getting those soggy grounds out of the pitcher is a pain. That's the same task you have with any stainless steel filter in a pour over or air press kit, or a ceramic filter pour over kit. Pour over if for the weekend when I want to treat myself.Very nice kit. Definitely recommend.

Let’s face it. To an extent, most French press coffee makers are fundamentally the same. They have the container (usually borosilicate glass with an outer holder) and the plunger with the filter screen(s) and the spring style ring around the edge to keep the grounds out of the coffee. Various presses will have one, two or three fine mesh screens, and some presses will boast of a dual-layer borosilicate glass container to keep your coffee hotter. This press has two screens and an absolutely beautiful outer metal holder for the glass. The wooden handle adds to the beauty and is easy and safe to hold. As for the screens, I have another press with only one screen and I learned a long time ago keeping grinds out of your cup is just as much about your technique as anything else, so the two screens are plenty. As for heat, I have found this French press produces hotter coffee after a nine-minute brew than my drip coffee maker*.*I have been trying various brew methods, and they all produce slightly different results. The 9-minute idea comes from James Hoffmann’s highly rated “The Ultimate French Press Technique” which you can easily find online, which is:1: 30 grams medium coarse coffee to 500 ml water (I use less grounds for a weaker, but still full bodied brew)2: Leave for 4 minutes3: Mix a bit so the grounds fall to the bottom and then scoop out the foam.4: Let it rest for another 5 minutes5: Carefully pour through the filter, which is set just on top of the water, WITHOUT PLUNGING so as to not stir up everything. There are of course other more standard methods, but this one does make a good cup of coffee. Experiment! The only hard part about a French press is going to be cleaning out the grounds, as you can’t dump grounds into your sink. I often fill the press with water, rinsing off the plunger in the process, and then swirl it out into my compost bin. If I’m not composting, I will pour it out through a reusable coffee filter (from my drip coffee maker) and then scrape it out from the filter into the trash. This annoyance is going to be the same for all French presses. I’ve had no issues with grinds getting caught in the filter of this press, so I’m happy. I can then clean the press with a bit of soapy water, pushing the plunger through the water a couple of times to clean the oils off the plunger.Overall, I love the press. It’s just beautiful. Definitely recommended!
