Whether you’re switching to air drying for your laundry or looking for an upgrade for your current clothesline situation, this extra large parallel clothesline dryer is a smart and efficient solution. The dryer is designed with two main components: a galvanized steel post and aluminum top with durable plastic clotheslines. The top pivots, so you can easily turn it to reach every inch of clothesline when loading or unloading the dryer. This clothesline comes with a plastic ground sleeve that should (ideally) be cemented into the ground for maximum stability. When in use, the post rests securely in the ground anchor with the aluminum top in place. When not in use, the aluminum top folds down and the pole can be removed from the ground anchor, so you can remove the dryer during inclement weather (which we recommend) or if you otherwise need to remove obstacles from your yard. However, the steel and aluminum are galvanized, so they won’t rust if left out. The clothesline comes ready to assemble in just three parts, with the clotheslines pre-strung. To install with ground sleeve: 1. Dig a hole 8-12 inches in diameter and 20 inches deep. The hole should be wider at the bottom than at the top. 2. Fill the hole with about 3 inches of small rocks, then pour about 6 inches of concrete into the hole (or until concrete comes to the bottom of the ground sleeve when held flush with the ground). 3. Holding the sleeve in place, finish filling the hole with concrete (you may leave a small gap to fill in with dirt and grass if you wish). 4. Immediately run a stick or tube through the sleeve and through the concrete to the rock base to allow water to drain. 5. Insert the lower vertical pole of the dryer into the sleeve, then use a level to align the pole vertically. 6. Remove pole and allow concrete to set fully, then install your dryer.

I read many reviews before buying this; some of the negative comments gave me cause for concern. I have had 2 other similar outdoor clothes lines over the past 35 years. THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST!It was delivered in less than a week and was packaged very well. The frame is very sturdy and everything locks into place beautifully. The comments I read about machine lubricant were a good 'heads-up' but a very small deal. Being forewarned, I wiped it down when I unpacked it. It was a breeze to wipe off with a clean rag or paper towel. It took less than 3 minutes. The lines are a little loose but tightened with all the effort of tying your shoes! If you prefer a thicker line, it's easy to replace, I have found the lines are fine for normal mixed laundry: sheets, slacks, jeans, shirts, T's, etc. I can't imagine hanging more than 2 loads of laundry on ANY single pole clothes line. Tip: leave at least one empty line between rows of hanging for air flow. My first clothes line, that lasted 20 years, was not nearly as sturdy and well-made as the Household Essentials! This back yard dryer is not industrial strength and hanging heavy and light items intermittently, balancing the weight, will help clothes dry faster and prevent damage to any single pole clothes line. I can't imagine hanging more than two loads at a time.I am a 60-something woman, so getting the cement (about $4.00) home and to the back yard was my biggest challenge in installing the clothes line. If I can do it, you can too. The instructions were clear and easy to follow.I shopped carefully before making this purchase. This is, BY FAR, the best outdoor clothes dryer for the lowest price.

We bought this clothes dryer in December of 2008. My husband did a "soft" install because we weren't sure where it would work best. He dug a hole with a pike about 10-12" deep, stuck the pole in, and tamped the dirt around it. I used it like that for about a month. During that month, the dryer was stable enough for me to hang two loads of heavy towels at a time. When the right location revealed itself, my husband installed it per the enclosed instructions with cement. The installation took about 15 minutes with my help. The instructions were clear and no special skills are required other than the ability to mix a bit of cement and pour it in a hole.I have been using it in its permanent position for about four months. We're in South Florida and we have a pool. Half a dozen towels are used every day, plus our regular laundry. The dryer is completely stable. I can hang my heavy mattress cover on one side and it does not tip. When I hang a very heavy item, I drape it over 10 or 12 lines to spread it out. This aids in faster drying.Four months into this, none of the components appear worn or discolored. It swivels smoothly and allows me to stand in one place with my clothes basket and hang things up quickly.I didn't originally buy a hanging clothespin bag. Eventually I realized that turning around and walking two steps to reach for my basket of clothespins adds up to a lot of lost time. I cut my clothes hanging time in half by hanging my pins right on the dryer with a clothespin bag. This is the one I got. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000I6739CI expect almost anything that keeps your bags on the line will work. If you're clever, you can probably make one out of a plastic grocery bag.I have cut an average of $70 each month since I started drying outside. The clothes smell good. The towels can be a little crunchy. At the beginning, I started adding Downy liquid softener to the rinse cycle. Eventually it became apparent that nobody actually minded crunchy towels, so I cut that out. Sheets are not crunchy. They're crisp and feel delicious. If your family prefers soft clothes, just add softener to your rinse cycle. My 10-year-old suddenly likes to do his laundry so he can hang it up. To get to the hanging part, he's required to do the whole job. He now collects his laundry, washes it, hangs it to dry, collects it, folds it and puts it away. I just did away with half of my laundry. For this alone the product deserves five stars.I have recommended this dryer to family and friends. If I forgot to bring it in for a hurricane, I'd buy another just like it.

Overall, this is a great product and as titled, will end up paying for itself in no time with the electric savings! I will say, you can only realistically hang 2-3 loads of laundry as the lines are so close together. Our pole came dented/rippled, unfortunately. It's a bit flimsy feeling, and i wonder if it's due to the pole or if it's just the design in and of itself.
