These are the best set of ear muffs I have used. The noise reduction rating is among the highest I have seen. In high school I never used ear protection when I hunted and as a result, I have constant ringing in my ears. I have vowed to never again shoot without good ear protection. This is easy to do at the range, but when hunting, I want to be able to hear what is going on around me.The electronic amplification these provide enable me to hear everything while I hunt. The best part is there are microphones on each ear cup which provides stereo sound. Not only am I able to hear, I can pinpoint exactly where the sound is coming from just as well as I can with my naked ears. The ear cups are big and a little bulky, yet very comfortable. I can wear them for an hour straight and don't feel like my head has been in a vice when I take them off.Due to the size of the ear cups, shooting a rifle feels a little cumbersome at first as the ear cup hits the stock. After a little use, I didn't really notice anymore. Even at work, I use these for range training with both the Remington 870 and my AR-15. They don't interfere with either except for the clicking as the plastic touches the stock. If you are a pistol shooters, these are perfect as they are extremely comfortable and the size doesn't make any difference. The auto shutoff feature is a big money saver as I never remember to turn them off when I'm done shooting. Battery life is very good. I can't remember the last time I have replaced the batteries and on average, I probably use them an hour a week with the amplification on.I hunt coyotes a lot and sometimes I like to listen to music or books while I am on a set. It is great to be able to pipe the music through the ear muffs with the included cord. It didn't seem like an important feature until I used it. Now I really appreciate it. I don't use it often, but when I do, it's a great feature to have. The only thing about these that occasionally bugs me is being near power lines. From time to time, I hunt beneath high voltage power lines and the EM field from the electricity will induce a hum in the speakers that is irritating. In these situations, you can always turn the volume off and use them as normal earmuffs. All in all, these are a great set of hearing protectors. They are comfortable and have a great noise reduction. The stereo electronic amplification seals the deal.

Took this one to outdoor range today, and the initial impression is very positive:- This unit suppresses gun noise to fairly comfortable level, while human talk and ambient noise pass-through nicely, and can even be amplified if you turn up the dial. I obviously hear others talking than the other way.- Wearing glasses didn't compromise much of its performance, I will hold off the gel pad upgrade for now. However, I haven't tried indoor, where a gel pad may be a worthy upgrade.- Wearing comfort is good so far. I had it on for few hours and didn't feel uncomfortable about its weight. The pressure on my ear is about right. A very secure feel but not over done. The biggest downside is that it doesn't fold in. Most ear muffs I've seen can fold into the headband, this one can't. It takes more space when you carry it around. But I do prefer better protection if that's the price to pay. The size and look doesn't make it sexy neither, if that's important to you.I don't have experience with other brand/model to compare, and haven't try indoor range yet. Will update once I learn more.Update: I did a minor upgrade after watching YouTube. Open the earmuff, you will see some empty spaces. I put in around 20 form earplugs in each side to fill those spaces. I am sure it will help a little, but difficult to tell how much. It is an easy and low cost upgrade, and I recommend it.

When firing a magnum you need something that works. It's not about name brands its about ear protection. So many reviews tell you about decibels. I need normal answers. These are fantastic. They do what they are meant to do. Feel comfortable on head and over ears. Adjustable and makes you feel confident that you are protecting yourself at the range. You can adjust sound so that you can still hear voices or not. When you fire sound dampening kicks in then it let's you hear voices again

I mostly (only?) shoot at an indoor range and my basic cheap hear muffs really were not up to the task. Those were in several list of the best electronic earmuffs and were among the most reasonably priced here, so I though I'd give them a try.The finish is OK, with a could of molding marks here and there, but nothing bad. They are comfortable and though a bit big, I quickly forgot I had them on. Sound wise, they are MUCH better than what I had before, and having tried a friend's Peltor protac, I can say they perform at least the same when it comes to sound proofing. The set came with two batteries that come in and out easily. Sounds basic, but I read that on some other brand it can be really tricky. The amplification works fine, but doe not seem very linear : turn the "volume" up for 2/3 of the travel and nothing happens, then in just a few mm you go from very low amplification to hearing everything very loud. More a comment than a complaint, but worth noting, I thought.Anyway, very happy with my purchase!

Out of the package these earmuffs feel like quality. I have a pair of regular earmuffs with a NRR of 31dB and I can't hear any difference in ambient noise with the power off on these. The mic's sound quite natural when turned on. They are large but not heavy and for me, don't seem to interfere with the rifle butt in a sitting position. I wear glasses and still get a comfortable fit with a tight seal. The lower profile electronic earmuffs post a rating of 19 to 22dB NRR and given that sound preasure doubles every 3 dB, I have opted for the highest (NRR) rating I can get. Haven't tried them at the range yet, I will update this when I do. You might want to check reviews on Amazon.com, there is a lot more.May 12, 2016... Used these earmuffs on an outdoor range last week and they worked perfectly. I'm very happy and would buy again. Note, I have not tried to play music through them... not a good idea while being responsible for firearms.May 21, 2016... I shoot 223 but spotted for a guy shooting 338 today and worked well in suppressing the report.

Comfortable and delivers as per my expectations. At the range firing pistols with the guy next door to you shooting a hand cannon and the sound is muffled to an acceptable level all whilst hearing conversations amplified. No regrets.

I got these to replace a pair of passive (non-electronic) Howard Leight ear protectors, which I've used quite a bit for smallbore rifle shooting. Those were very effective, but of course it's hard to have a conversation or hear what someone else is saying while you've got them on.The electronic version is excellent, offering the same build quality and gunshot sound protection, but also letting you hear normal sounds and carry on a conversation. There is only one control, which turns the headphones on and adjusts the volume. With the volume fairly low you can shoot happily as well as hearing what you need to. With the volume high it amplifies the sounds around you to quite a high level. Not the cheapest (nor yet the most expensive) but very good quality for the money.
