I have so far used this external drive with four computers of varying ages and makes, two PCs and two laptops. Worked well instantly upon plug-in in all cases. Playback of my DVDs is much better than withmy Dell drive. Like many external drives, this one has to be treated gently when inserting or removing a disk.

I have a HP Pavillion PC with a defective optic drive. It plays and rips well, but sees certain CD-R recordings I made as blank discs, and it will not burn CDs properly. Rather than spend a fortune repairing or replacing the optic drive on my PC, I decided to try this HP external drive. Everything works perfectly--synced instantly with legacy media player. Buns, rips and plays all types of disc formats. Highly recommended to pair with other HP PC's and laptops. Plugged right in (USB port in back of PC) and took care of all my optical drive needs.

I have been using this every day for several months now because my new computer does not have a disc drive. It's kinda noisey, but motor is strong and it has not given me any issues.

Nice plug and play external drive. Seems to be a little flimsy and will not hold up to any abuse but treat careful and will see if it continues to keep going.

Quality. Price. Easy to order and safe delivery.Very few laptops come with DVD drive and although you won't need it often ... Nice to have an external on hand.

So according to my records, my old LG DVD/CD reader/writer add-on drive lasted almost ten years (under moderate use), and cost about the same as this HP branded replacement. For some reason, the LG started to have read issues as the laser moved further from the center. And it was getting noisy mechanically.Anyway, this new HP replacement is running fine so far, and it's whisper quiet.Hope I get the same mileage out of as the old LG. :)
