I'm using this with an iPad. Wireless set up took 1 minute using WPS. You do not have to use the HP Smart app to set-up, print or make copies. You do have to use it to scan. And you do have to give it access to your wireless network to scan. However you do not need it for anything but scanning and you can turn off its' permission to the network under settings, Privacy, on the iPad. You can tell HP not to annoy you with anything when you set up the account. It cost $99.99 when I bought it in August, so a pretty good deal as my Canon copier (I bought the HP primarily to make copies) has an issue with the laser unit right now. From my quick look at the HP Smart app I judge it, the app, to be somewhat difficult to use but very full featured if that is what you are looking for. This printer/copier/scanner is small, lightweight and fast and very easy to use. For those who say that the app doesn't work on a desktop, there is a separate piece of software for the desktop machines. And for those who found no directions, you must download the user manual from HP. Just Google "HP LaserJet MFP M140w Wireless Printer user manual" and get it. The quick start guide is in the box as is the power cord. You can attach this printer to a desktop/laptop via USB with the proper cord which is not included.

I read all the negative setup and connection reviews and presumed they were user-related but woefully discovered my machine not only couldn’t connect, but also couldn’t identify its own model number and the new printer cartridge was empty. Worse, to return it, you need to print a shipping label, which is of course impossible, then I had to drive it 30 mins away. My experience with this machine was a disaster.I later bought this model and setup took less than five minutes, including connection to a router. A total breeze. I was so tired of the poor quality on my ink jet printers due to dried ink. I didn't want to invest in a color laser right now. This laser prints quickly and i still have a scanner. Great work at home and personal printer!!

This printer is so much better than my HP Inkjet that was costing me a small fortune in cartridges that would dry up 1 month after installing. This new printer was a little problematic connecting to my wi-fi but I discovered the reason was my Bitdefender Anti-virus software kept trying to connect printer to VPN which was turning my internet connection off. So I turned off the VPN setting and the printer then was able to connect to wi-fi & enable printer to be set up.(It evens says it in the HP Printer Reference Guide to disconnect VPN)

I shopped this printer at several retailers and found it here at the best price. I replaced an old printer with this upgraded laser jet and I love it! It comes with one Black ink cartridge which is lasting so much longer than my old outdated printer ink cartridges. I also like how small it is. It fits nicely on the corner of my desk without taking up too much space. I was overdue for an upgrade and wish I had bought this much sooner.

I spent a long time setting this printer up. The HP Smart App kept showing the printer was offline. I‘m embarrassed to say how long this took me. I didn’t return it because I had already created an HP Smart account. If you’re not tech savvy HP Smart online support probably won’t be helpful and there is no number to call. This was a hassle for me to set up but not giving up was key ( trial and error). I do like its compact size. Too soon to comment on quality.

Nice little cheap laser printer. I don't print often, and got tired of inkjet cartridges drying out after almost every use, so decided that a laser printer was cheaper for me in the long run. I needed an all-in-one as I actually use the copy and scan features more than I print. Set up was relatively easy, as I am using it connected via a USB cable as my desktop PC is not wireless capable and is hardwired to the router. I did need to make sure I downloaded the correct software for this direct from the HP site. My Windows 10 computer had no problem recognizing it right away. I have taken a point off as I am not yet sure of the longevity of this cheaper model. I may change this later.Edit: Adding the extra star. This little printer just works, even if I've let it sit for a long period of time. No fussing around trying to get the computer to recognize the printer again if Windows has updated.2nd Edit: Still working well two years after purchase. I recently bought a new computer running Windows 11 Pro and the computer recognized the printer immediately. A quick software install which I had downloaded from the HP site and it was up and running with no problems. Still connected via USB even although my new computer has wifi as it is generally the easiest install, and I'm the only one using it.

Printers do not come with USB cables. They never have, not for the last 25 years. I bought this printer for its wireless functionality and so far I've tested it across three separate devices: my PC, Android phone & tablet. Each work great via the HP Smart app, I can print documents from anywhere in my home.Set up was a bit finicky, but it I think it was because of my router. After resetting it, the printer connected into my network with little trouble. The scanner is decent. If you try to scan a document using the HP Smart app, it will tell you to sign in to HP's software. You don't need to do this; you can use the Windows' included Scanner & Fax app instead.Overall a decently built, compact multi-function printer

Slow to start, prints fast. It would be annoying if I used to do lot of printing.
