it's a brayer in the sense that it holds the same shape a brayer is supposed to be, so it gets three stars for effort, but as to the primary function of a brayer, which is to roll smoothly, it fails miserably. Great for frustratedly smearing paint about, disappointing for spreading paint in the manner you probably bought it for.
