Grab this outlet if you have concerns about the quality and/or durability of your 240v plug outlet. With a brand new outlet installed in my garage for my EV, the very last thing I wanted to worry about was the plug frying.

You will pay more for a receptacle that is rated for EV charging, but this is a necessary expense. Regular receptacles can't handle the the prolong high amperage current needed for EVs. Hubbell has been the leader in this. It may be a couple of dollars more than others, but I think it is worth it.

This is a very heavy duty receptacle. I've installed quite a few of these for various equipment around my lab. I wish I knew about this brand before. You can really feel the difference in quality between this receptacle when you hold it in your hand. As many reviewers have pointed out, having quality equipment for applications that require constant high amperage draw is very important for safety and performance. That said, this unit is overpriced.

I finally gave in and spent the money to buy this highly-rated outlet for my EV charger, after the previous Leviton 14-50 began to melt!Two things annoyed me, therefore minus 1 star: You'll need a 3/16th allen wrench to install the wires. Why can't they add this 10 cent piece to the item given its price point? Instead, had to order one which delayed the install by another 2 days. Second, the wall plate is proprietary since the cutout diameter is slightly larger than standard. Again, had to order one separately (for 10 bucks!).

I replaced a basic Leviton 14-50 with this one. It is a huge improvement. It is so much more heavy duty and better built to withstand the higher temps and usage of a car charger. It uses Allen wrench bolts rather the Phillips screws to tighten the compression of the wire. If you do order this, remember to get the face plate as well as the diameter of the outlet is 2.48 inches rather than the standard 2.14. Leviton has also started making a EV style 15-50 which is also a good choice.

I upgraded my plug from a Leviton to this one. I kept getting errors and my charging speed slowed down. You can tell this one is industrial grade and less susceptible to heat. My charger fits nice and snug with no wiggle.
