Acrylic Gesso Primer for Painting
Prepare your surfaces for painting with gesso!
Hyatt's gesso for acrylic painting provides opaque primer coverage for artists. The gesso can be applied as a primer to any surface that will accept acrylic mediums. Use on canvas, wood, plaster, fabric, masonite, and most other smooth or textured surfaces. Besides paint, gesso can be used as a primer for other art materials such as tempera, crayon, ink and pencil.
Our gesso is manufactured with a liquid smooth brushing consistency that allows the user to create an even prep surface. Gesso is waterproof when dry and produces a fine painting surface suitable for oil painting, acrylic painting, and watercolor painting. If an alternative color is desired, acrylic paint can be added.
- Containers have lids that can be sealed to prevent gesso from drying out.

This gesso is thick, but not hard to mix with water. It has a nice “tooth†to it as well. It’s worth paying a little extra for the bucket knowing that it will last for a while.

I've worked at a Paint store and I'm also an artist myself, and I have to say this gesso is top shelf quality. It is very thick so you have to dilute it in another bottle with water for the first few coats. In fact that's what you should do with any bare canvas. Afterwards you can layer it with a nice thick coat ( I still dilute it with a little bit of water because of the consistency ). I've already sketched on the canvas and it's a very durable gesso. Highly recommend.

And it does not set well, it needs several thin layers before being a viable product for your canvas. You can't knife a thick layer on, it just slides right off.
