Designed to be a rapid, accurate alternative to wet chemical tests, WaterWorks Chromium (chromium-6) for water quality testing offers the user an easy dip-and-read water quality test strip for determining chromium hexavalent (+6) concentrations in water. These test strips are safe to use with no hazardous chemicals and no MSDS is required. Simply dip the test strip into your sample, remove the excess water, wait, and read your results using the color matching guide. It’s that simple. Detects:

I called the company at the number listed on the back of the bottle and they verified that this is a total chromate and chromium test strip which means it will report all of the forms of chromium together as a single number. Chromium compounds are present in trivalent form [chromium (III) ions] and in hexavalent form (chromate and dichromate ions) in industrial waste water. This tests for total chromium in all of its forms; this includes trivalent chromium (Chromium-3) plus chromate and dichromate (hexavalent chromium). So bottom line you would have to use additional solutions to figure out how much of the total is trivalent chromium and subtract that from the total to get the subtotal for hexavalent chromium only in the form of chromate and dichromate. At least that's what I understand so far about the chemistry for hexavalent chromium for this test strip. Also note the SCALE on this test strip is PARTS PER MILLION (mg/L) whereas health concerns for hexavalent chromium or Cr-6 are in the range of PARTS PER BILLION (ug/L) which is a much much smaller scale and way way lower than what's on this test strip. However, from our perspective, at the relatively low cost, it was maybe worth it for us for just a really rough safety check.

Great color match/dip test for Chromium-6. Easy test and results in under a minute. If you are looking to test for Chromium-3, you will need to purchase additional reagents.

I bought these to test chromium-6 levels in home water supply, but there was no read out on the stick. This does not seem to be dip stick that will show you how much chromium-6 is in your water. When you get the bottle, it tells you there are special procedures to get a read-out. Was a waste of money.

I guess we don't have any Chromium-6 in our water because the strips came out white. The bottle of 50 strips was definitely worth it at $12. Another review claimed their bottle was expired but mine is well within the expiration date. Only improvement they could make is to leave out the Chromium-3 instructions because that has obviously confused some people.

Typical quick dip stick method. You need other chemicals to test for Chromium 3.

EPA limit is 5 ppm. Remember that, my fellow chemists.

Description is horrible! You need a bunch of chemicals to make these test strips work. Of the three chemicals, only one of them was a common chemical, the other two are hard to find. I ended up just giving up. I would not recommend buying these. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!
