I've owned a Jaccard meat tenderizer for several years now and it still works great. I'm buying this one to take to my mom's to have when our family gets together for a bbq (and for her to use). On a recent trip we purchased a pime cut of tri-tip thinking that this cut might make up for not being able to tenderize the meat but we were all disappointed. Witth the tenderizer we can buy the choice cut and still have a better meal.I also like that it's easy to disassemble and dishwasher safe so cleaning is a breeze. Like I mentioned we've owned one for a long time and it looks and works like new. Great product.

This is a quick update on the first review written about 6 months ago. Just wanted to let everyone know that I've used this Jaccard tenderizing marvel at least twice a week. It's all I said it was and more. As time passed I was concerned the blades would become a little "off" and not slide back through the blade guides easily. I had read a few reviews claiming that re-assembling was a problem for them. I now feel confident that the Jaccard they received was either defective to start with or they were a little too rough with it. I do treat my tenderizer with care. After at least 50 uses, 50 times taking it apart, running it through the dishwasher, and putting it back together, it's just as easy to do as it was the very first time I did it....a flawless process. Running it through the dishwasher does get it perfectly clean. If I'm not going to run the dishwasher right away I'll sit the Jaccard in hot soapy water and take apart just before I start the washer. That way tiny pieces of raw meat don't dry and stick in tiny nooks. I'm a clean freak in the kitchen and I'm happy. This is a product everyone who eats beef and wants to save money should have. Now check out my original review. I've been thinking about ordering this meat tenderizer for a while now. Finally did it...and am I glad I did. Knowing it was soon to be delivered, I purchased a package of petite sirloin steaks at the sale price of $1.29 a lb.. You could tell just by looking at them they were not tender at all. For sure a sale I would have quickly passed up with just one look if it had not been for the fact I was looking for "experimental" tuff meat. The Jaccard arrived. I defrosted one of the steaks. The meat was so tuff I had a hard time getting a fork through it. I ran the tenderizer over it about 8 times watching to make sure the meat was not falling apart. I added my seasonings before the last two passes over the meat. I heated a cast iron pan, added a little margarine and seared the steak on both sides to seal in the juice oozing from all the cuts in the meat. I turned the steak in the hot pan every minute or so until it was med rare. To my surprise the steak was as tender as could be and sooo tasty. No more expensive cuts of meat for me. It's very obvious that if you're working with a relatively tender cut of meat, chicken, or fish, one or two passes over the meat would be enough. But this thing can really do a fabulous job of tenderizing tuff meat if you stab it enough times. I had no problem with taking the Jaccard apart for cleaning. The cartridge came out easily and went right back into place with no effort whatsoever. This is the best money I've spent in a long time and will save me big bucks buying cheaper cuts of meat. By the way, the flavor of the cheaper cut was extremely flavorful.

Update to original review below. Well I spoke too soon. Now the blades won’t go back into the guide after six uses. If they get out of alignment one tiny bit there’s no way to get them right. Very unfortunate, Jaccard needs to fix this issue because it’s rendered a potentially excellent product to junk. Would not recommend.Good sturdy product with extremely sharp blades, which is what you want. I've used this on boneless chicken breasts, pork chops, and less tender cuts of beef like bottom round (London Broil) all with excellent results. I haven't had any issues with cleaning as some report on here. The blade cartridge snaps out easily if one follows the directions, and I find that the plastic storage cover that is included with the piece makes a great place to soak the blades in some warm, soapy water. I don't see any need to remove the blade guide on the bottom for cleaning, as the slots are wide enough to come clean while soaking the unit in some soapy water and using a simple kitchen brush to get in between them. Takes about 30 seconds. Once dry, the blade cartridge slips right back in, and I've had minimal issues with the blades lining up with the guide. All in all, very satisfied with this product and I recommend.

When I first looked at this tenderizer,it seemed more than I wanted to pay for something like this. But this goes under the old saying " You get what you pay for " and this is an excellent well made product. I looked at the lesser priced tenderizers with pins instead of blades, and figured it would be less efficient pinching small holes in the meat as apposed to slicing it with the Jaccard Tenderizer. The blades on this actually make a small slice in the meat. Jaccard also has a 48 blade model for a couple of $$ less. But to my knowledge it does not come apart for cleaning, this one does. ( Check out my customer image on the product page ). It is extremely important to clean this properly after using it on meat. After using this for a couple of weeks it seems to work quite well. The only thing I found a bit discouraging was you have to go over a area multiple times to tenderize it properly. In doing so it tends to flatten the meat down, particularly noticeable on a thinner cut of meat. I originally thought one pass would do it.This does work well for marinating meat, the holes allow the marinade to get into the meat in a short period of time.If you use this on a large roast and the blades go in all the way, you are going to have a tough time getting them out again. I found when using it on a larger piece of meat, if you cook it for a short period of time before tenderizing it it works better. the blades seem to go in easier and the blood is congealed a bit so its less messy also. But best of all the meat you use it on is more tender. Even though this comes apart easily for cleaning and reassembles just as easy, it's still a bit difficult to clean. Running the dish washer just to clean it is not practical at times. I found that soaking and swishing it around in a pot of hot soapy water right after use works best for me. I also use my which has long bristles to clean between the blades. Caution blades are very sharp
