Your cart is empty.The Atari Punk Console Electronics Kit is an intermediate level sound synthesizer or tone generator that has remained a popular project for DIY’ers, electronic musicians and sound effects professionals since its inception back in the 1980’s. A great noise-making project. Originally featured in the 1980 book: “Engineer's Notebook; Integrated Circuit Applications” written by Forest Mims III, it can be deployed as-is or be used as a basis for experimenting with the ubiquitous NE555 timer chip. Based on the 556 dual timer IC, the kit comes complete with quality components including knobs, an enclosure, and even a 9-volt battery. A favorite tweak for this kit is to use joysticks instead of the manual knobs to get even wilder or complex sound output from this box. Others have used this circuit to generate complex tones and subsequently import them into other audio effects units or digital samplers for further exploration into crafting soundscapes or for use in dance clubs. This project enjoys wide appeal from youngsters just starting out in electronics to hardcore sound enthusiasts worldwide.

Ok, it’s like this. I never, I mean never leave a long review. Even if its a negative one. Well let me sum up this heaping pile of garbage. I will not embellish one bit when i tell you. I received a warped plastic box, missing potentiometer (which luckily i had one on hand from another project), a broken switch, some screws, a few other pieces and instructions that would even make Steven Hawkings go mad! The worst instructions of all times.Now by all means this is the worst kit i ever put together. You will definitely need to know electronics and or some electrical engineering stuff. I have been working on computers and electronics for over 40 years and never again! I tossed it in the trash. Also the case is a joke it will have to be heavily modified to make the stuff fit!! Wasted 7 hours of my life!!! Yes 7! Not the 1 as it claims in the useless instructions. And it wasn’t the soldering that held me up, it was the horrible cheap toxic case they sent that was also damaged to begin with. Please if you take anything from this review, please walk the other way. I should of just skipped this purchase but huge lesson learned!-10/10 or ten thumbs down.

Fun and easy to put together, unfortunately the most trouble I had should have been pretty straight forward. The potentiometers aren't quite long enough to give you enough thread on the other side to attach the nut. Also, the knobs don't fit them either. Modifications can be made, but I wasn't expecting mismatched parts in a kit. It'll stay unfinished for now until I find a more unique enclosure for it, and pick up the correct parts.

Everything other reviewers said, but I think they were being generous. This is an older and well established project that many diy synth kits offer, but this one's instructions are not as well written, parts not sourced well, etc. I'll give am 2 stars for including all the parts.

Works as advertised, but instructions could have been a little clearer. Volume is quite low & the potentiometer for volume is barely functional. The case has no pre-drilled holes for knobs, board mounting or speaker grill, so that adds a lot of trouble. Jameco is a household name for me & I am a little disappointed in this kit, especially with FMM3s name on it.
