Older cars are going to require this sort of maintenance. My husband was able to get it to fit by having me turn engine over, put it in drive, reverse, etc.as the engine moved slightly when he took out old one. Smart thinking on my husband's part! He was able to make it fit while changing gears. Whew. That was a close one. Safe to drive once again!!
