1. Ferment lids are airtight during fermentation, there is silicone seal inside the lids, and silicone grommet and airlock lets carbon dioxide out, but stops oxygen, mold and bacteria from getting in, which helps finish your successful fermentation

2. Easy to use and easy to clean. The materials needed for fermentation are available here, if you are new to fermenting, then this fermentation kit is perfectly suitable for you!

When we bring vegetables into the kitchen, we hope to preserve them long enough to enjoy them, so we wash them and keep them at the proper temperature. Despite that, a 2004 study by the University of Arizona found that 40 percent of the food grown in the United States goes to waste, and a large portion of that is what consumers let spoil in their fridge. Every year the average household sends usd600 in food to the landfill (for some of us that is actually the compost pile or out to the chickens). So if you couldn’t resist that beautiful bunch of turnips at the farm stand but have no idea how to prepare them, think fermentation.Lactic-acid fermentation is an ideal way to preserve the bounty while retaining nutrients and deepening the flavor profile.

It took me a long, long time to gather the courage and initiative to try fermenting hot peppers. Because of the extraordinarily hot summer and long growing season in 2022 I harvested the last of my hot peppers in November. I started four 16 oz jars of these with a 3% brine (using a scale). I let them ferment for three months and there was not a speck of any kind of mold or fungus on them whatsoever. I did see a bit of whiteness settling at the very bottom of the jars and was afraid it was that kahm yeast I’d heard about; however, after some Google research I discovered that it is nothing more than some of the normal bacteria dying off (due to having unfavorable conditions) and is totally natural in the bottom of the jar. And the peppers are divine! I blended some up into hot sauce and others we add onto sandwiches etc. I’ve already ordered a few more sets and I am super excited to try making sauerkraut, kimchi, radishes etc.I know people do ferments without these special gadgets but I would so much rather use them and have perfectly clean ferments then have to scrape off some mold, because every time I read somewhere to “just scrape off the mold” it makes me feel a little bit funny inside.

These are mostly great, but got a little yucky by the end of a 2-3 week fermentation. I would’ve given them 5 stars if the material (stainless steel) were more solid—this steel felt light, thin, and somewhat flimsy, but the gaskets and plastic components worked great, and because they disassemble easily, cleaning was quicker and easier than I expected. Definitely better than trying to use regular mason jar lids and trying to “burp” them regularly (what a pain). The juices did overflow a bit, but otherwise it was trouble free. Highly recommend storing them in a sink if you’re able to, makes any brine leaks a minor issue, vs. staining or damaging the countertop.

I’m getting into fermenting and have seen this type of device on numerous YouTube videos. I’m glad these are priced inexpensive. They are super easy to use. They’ve worked perfectly for me in my entry into fermenting and I’ve made some delicious fermented peppers thus far. Great product at a great price.Note: these are WIDE MOUTH mason jar lids. I did not know there was a differed and ordered these for my “standard” sized mason jars only to realize there IS a difference. I just ordered some wide mouth jars to match these lids. My mistake.

I use this for fermentation of vegetables. The kit comes with lids, silicon seals and grommets, and the airlock assemblies. These work perfectly with the simple components and design. The grommet and seals prevent new air from entering and the user adds water in the airlock assembly to complete the seal. I sometimes use this in conjunction with glass weights which hold the bulk of the food under the brine solution. I have had no issue with mold forming or anything which could cause a ferment to go bad. I have fermented sauerkraut, peppers, and cucumbers using these and have had no issue with using. The lids are for wide mouth jars and work on different types of jars. These are very easy to use and have consistently contributed to a very solid fermented product.

I used to Can Jam Jelly and Preserve years ago but like most women today I was a single working mother of 4 children and one just doesn't have time to do this. My children are now all grown and gone and have children of their own. When we did fermenting it was remembering when to do things like digging it up out of the ground releasing the gas putting cap back on shaking it releasing the gas and putting the cap back on putting it back in the ground and covering it with dirt. I don't know who invented this device but it makes life so much easier when fermenting. Your product is strong durable and works great and makes fermenting very easy to do with less work I plan on ordering a few more of them sometime early next week. Sincerely, Rhonda Clark

Good Stainless parts and the silicone & plastic airlock parts are fine. However, the material of the gasket between the jar and lid is sub-standard. Instead of being silicone is appears to be some form of closed cell foam which takes a permanent imprint/dent after the first use, this decreases the chance of a proper seal on the second use or after. Additionally due to the somewhat porous nature of the seal, if the become contaminated in a bad ferment batch, they cannot be sterilized well (they warp in heat and alcohol (Everclear) sterilization appears to mess with the material as well. I have been searching, but so far have not found an "aftermarket" silicone seal for a replacement that will fit withing the contours of the lid.
