This is excellent, some of the best money I have spent on photography gear. The price isn't ridiculous as compared to the Expodisc, and it just works.Generally, I am happy with the white balance my Nikon DSLRs suggest. Auto is fine for personal snapshots in changing light, and the fixed settings are close enough, with a little + or - tweaking. Generally. However, on occasions, in tough light, the cameras aren't even close. A case in point: under a tree in a local park, taking portraits. Skin tones bright orange, whatever I did. Enter this product.I am astounded by how well it works. Neutral white balance and pleasing, natural skin tones in nearly every circumstance. I say nearly as it struggled in my bathroom, dealing with light from two windows and via the door, which has a large plant nearby. In that case it was a little too magenta, and one of the presets - sunny, I think - was more pleasing. But in almost every other circumstance it has been bang on. I might not always chooses to keep an image's white balance neutral, but having it as a starting point is brilliant. This product has saved so much time post-processing, trying to nudge nearly-but-not-quite skin tones towards a natural shade. In light of this, I now carry it everywhere. I am completely sold on the colour balance ir provides. It does help that my cameras are Nikons, which make taking a custom white balance reading very easy indeed, and my main camera can store five custom presets at a time, which is very handy. I might not bother if the process with my camera was too convoluted and time consuming. Also, it seems to work well as an exposure meter at 18%. They key is to remember to meter from the position of the subject, looking back towards where you will be standing as the photographer, as you would with an incident light meter. This is also true of metering for the white balance. The bottom line: if your camera allows for easy setting of custom white balance, and especially if you shoot a lot of portraits in natural light, buy one. Don't hesitate. In a world of too much photography stuff, this is a very useful accessory and a genuine deal.
