This is actually my second one; I bought the first one from Amazon about 3 years ago and this is a replacement for the first one. It's a drum vent; I bought it as a safety precaution as I bought a plastic one-piece 55 gallon drum and a 12v pump to keep diesel in for my tractor. The vent allows air both in and out, but down in the extreme heat of Texas (even stored up under a shed where it gets little sun) the threads failed where they had spring pressure on them. I went out to fill the tractor up and noticed the top portion was missing (as well as the spring and inner valve.) At first I thought someone was trying to break it and steal fuel, but I wasn't any lower than I had been before. Tried repairing it by using a soldering iron to melt the two pieces together and while that did work for a bit - I came back a week later to find the assembly popped off again. Outside of that complaint - it IS a very nice vent but it's hard to believe it went up twenty bucks in just three years. Note that if you buy a pump setup, most of them will also have 2" NPT fittings - on most plastic drums one fitting is 2" NPT, the other is called a 2" "Buttress" (coarse thread) - you'll need an adapter (also sold on Amazon) to adapt the 2" Buttress to 2" NPT to use both this and a drum type pump. Worth it for the safety aspect, for sure.
