I lucked out and got an older Justrite 5 gallon metal gas can at a flea market for $15.-. This was possible in the first place because these things are made to last and made well. The only issue was that the old hose/nozzle was cracked, just at the point where it leaves the metal flange. No problem, the company is still around, still made in America and still has parts available to fix, instead of replace their products. I had some concern that the design of the can having changed a little at some point in the few decades since it was made, this might not fit, but it's a flex hose on a flange and looked like the same thing. It fit perfect, only took 2-3 minutes to take the old one off and put the new one on. Would've been faster but it only had one of the two screws needed. The new screws were notably longer, because the gasket that came with it was a nice thick cork gasket, a good bit thicker than the old one. Probably because the flange is a bit thinner steel now but it's still solid as a rock. One of the few times I've needed to fix something and wasn't cursing up a storm for an hour. One thing to note, these nozzles do come with different diameter hoses. From 1", probably appropriate for a 5 gallon can and capable of flowing a lot of fluid quickly, down to 5/8" that is good on smaller cans for filling chainsaws, lawnmowers and such without going too fast and spilling everywhere.

Okay, okay. Amazon has been e-mailing me for weeks wanting a review of this Justrite 5/8" pouring spout that I bought to put on my Justrite gasoline can. So here you go: it's easily the best spout the world has ever known. Durrable yet attractive. An ingenious design incorporating concentric overlapping metal rings that both contain leaks and bend easily to fit in tight places. The cork gasket is also extremely durable - when I replaced my ten-year-old one, it looked brand new. No rot, no tears. Amazing! If you're in need of a new spout for your can, or simply an upgrade of your existing one, the Justrite model 11078 is the one for you.

The design ( coiled metal to allow flex ) barely keeps the gasoline contained while pouring; after a pour, gasoline hides in all the crevices of the flex coils, so if you store your can in the trunk, you'll have some noticeable fumes for the next few days, which is disappointing, because the can itself stays completely sealed during storage, preventing such fumes. In any case, it's the right size for most car fuel-fill ports; other nozzles from JustRite can be too large ( they are probably intended for trucks and larger machines ).
