This tiny loop tool from Kemper is exactly what I needed for carving fine details on pottery. The loop is securely fastened to the smoothly varnished wooden handle in a way that obviously took time and attention. This tool looks to last for years. The tip of the wire is a "v" so carve lines are finer than any "u" loop. I love this tool and recommend it for anyone looking for the tiniest wire to do very fine carving work.

Gives nice, even incised line work when carving. The loop is small and rather delicate so you must be mindful when using and it must be cleared/cleaned often. But the price cannot be beat. Would definitely buy again.

Pros: Probably my favorite, most-used ceramic design tool. If you like sgrafitto and to incise thin-line designs into your clay, this is indispensable-- unlike needles and ball tip tools, it removes the clay from the incisions. Allows very tight turns and easy variation in thickness of incised line. Con: It's a thin wire, so not the most durable tool, expect to replace it every so often, especially if you use it on leather-hard ware. I always have a couple of them on hand for that reason, you can afford to at this list price.

This V-Shaped sgraffito tool works well. You can scratch the surface of your greenware, or it will easily create deeper lines.

Taking my first wheel throwing pottery course and I’m hooked on it. Tried sgraffito on one little trinket dish that turned out okay but I didn’t have great tools so it made it much harder, more laborious and time consuming. Breezed through 3 larger pieces yesterday with this little tool…sgraffito still takes a good amount of time, depending on the complexity of your design, but this little tool cuts clean ribbons out of clay, even when slightly past the leather hard stage. Perfect little tool!

Works great for carving and for sgraffito.. awesome for fine detail. I use this with stoneware. I go through one every few months, but that’s to be expected since the wire is thin.

I've purchased a dozen of these in the past few years - no other tool works as well for fine sgraffito in clay. It's also wonderful for cleaning up rough edges and mistakes with underglaze. You can get very fine detail, and carve away different amounts by angling the tool. That said, they bend and distort - keep your piece moist enough and your hand light and don't use it for scraping large-ish leather hard areas. The very fine wire also breaks eventually which is why I'm knocking off a star - I'm sure that they could find a better quality wire without sacrificing the thin gauge. That would justify the big price hike - grabbing this one on sale.

I had high hopes as this is a favourite tool amongst stagraffito enthusiasts on clay. Dont know if it was defective but i carved two lines before the tip snapped off
