I recently had to two prowlers scared off from an attempted entry into my home. I want to secure my valuables. One of them is the awesome iMac and the files it contains. This lock is made for today's iMac. They sell it for much more on Apple's website and in it's stores. The Lock fits perfectly and does not draw away from the aesthetics of the iMac's design. The Lock is sturdy and the cable is extra heavy duty. The installation was easy and took no time to accomplish. I also purchased the cable mount to secure the cable to the bottom side desk. I feel that this is enough deterrent to a smash and grab robbery that will keep my computer and files that are on it safe from the home prowler who gets in your home.

Easy installation, but it takes pushing the lock hard into the hub which must be positioned just right to allow the connection. I never heard the "click" but it is secure. Once I figured that out - installations were a snap. We have several iMacs that need to be secured. The security cable is thicker than I had imagined, and looks more secure than any laptop security cables we have purchased. Works great for us.

I was really impressed with the quality of the lock. I was nervous purchasing without seeing or feeling the materials and construction, but I'm very happy with this. I also like that there is space for cords to still run out the hole. It feels MUCH sturdier than some of the other Mac Locks you can buy that go into the little locking holes on the devices. I hope to not need this lock to serve it's purpose, but its a nice mental reassurance to at least a bigger challenge for potential thieves.

We purchased several of these locks from Amazon. We got burglarized and all computers tethered with these locks were stolen (with the lock domes attached to them). We have an alarm system and the burglars were in our space for 1 minute and 5 seconds as can be seen in the security cameras. The locks look sturdy and well built but they actually don't work - they have a week spot as soft as butter as I was able to proof to our staff after the burglary. Someone from the company needs to contact me for a full refund.

Many people who have looked at my computer figure that this is part of the design. They don't know it's a lock. It blends perfectly. I drilled a hole in the top of my desk behind the computer and I have this security cable looped through itself and around one of the desk leg supports, so the cable is mostly hidden under the desk top. Great product and very secure

Ok, so the design works. But in my opinion Kensington could have come up with a better design. First, it takes a second set of hands to attach it. Or, do what I did and use low stick tape to temporarily attach the round plate and ring so they will stay in place while you attempt to attach the dome. It took some effort to get the dome and lock to click in place. And when you unlock it and remove the lock, the plate, ring and dome come crashing down on your desk. Seems like Kensington could have come up with another mechanism (maybe even suction) to hold the assembly in place when you remove the lock. If I could do it again, I'd just buy a long bike cable with a loop at each end.

NOTE: This was bought for my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019)I've always had a laptop that I could stash in a safe when I wasn't at home, so I was kind of worried about getting a desktop computer that could stolen during a robbery. This solution puts me at ease. The cable is 1/4" braided steel cable encased in rubber. I have it looped around a let of my desk. If someone really wants it, they could probably figure-out a way to get it off or cut it free with the right tools, but it will definitely discourage a crash-and-grab from bothering and leave them with an XBOX or something I don't really care that much about.

The previous generation, which employed bits that were left in the Kensington slot in the back of the display, were a total loss --- when attached to the lock itself, they'd just slip out. Although installation is a little dodgy (could use three hands), it's straightforward, effective, and securely locks the iMac. An added benefit of the hemispherical dome design is that 90% of the lock is inaccessible to tampering.

Doesn’t fit the 2024 models. Not much use.

Very secure, functional and easy to assemble and install. No longer worry about my 27 inch Retina iMac now, neither the security nor the looks of it.

Excellent way to lock down your iMac. It's a bit tricky to get set up, but once it's on, it's great. The cable is nice and thick, which you cannot really tell until you see it (I have others with thin cables that would be easier to cut).
