I went with a stronger diffusion because the 1/8 you couldn’t tell much so def go with this one or higher. At night or really well lit places you can definitely tell the diffusion works great and softens up the image if you want a dreamy look. Def would get especially for the price I put this and stack an nd filter when needed and works great.

Great quality on a budget. I have used quite a few different K&F filters over the years and they've all been good. Personally I couldn't really tell the difference between the Shimmer 1, Black Mist 1/8, and Black Mist 1/4 so I just kept the Shimmer for now. I will probably go back for the combo Black Mist 1/4 + CPL some day to keep on my other lens for automotive photography.

Let me start by saying this filter absolutely works for what you're probably buying it for. That is, it takes the edge off harsh light corners quite well. It doesn't really result in a loss of light like some other mist filters do. I have noticed that it is pretty weak though. The mist effect barely extends past the edge of a light source at all. For some that's probably a great thing, I just expected a bit more bloom effect. Since it does what it's made to do pretty well, I'm giving it 4 stars. Just know that if you want something a bit stronger than barely noticeable, opt for the 1/4.

If you want to NOTICE the bloom, go to the 1/4 strength. This is a lighter, less noticeable change.Pretty light effect here, which I appreciate. I'm not personally huge on the super hazy highlights, so this is perfect for getting the most minor amount of extra "bloom", or in my case for cutting out a bit of sharpness on some of the newer lenses these days. I've also got a 1/4 strength of this same brand/series in a couple sizes, also a great little filter, and a more noticeable amount of bloom.

I absolutely love this filter! I was looking for something to soften up my pictures without breaking the bank and I came across this filter (43mm) for around 17 dollars after tax. It is super small and discrete to the point that I forget that it is on my lens half of the time.I decided to get the 1/8 black diffusion filter rather than the 1/4, 1/2 or the 1/1 because I was looking for just a subtle glow and this thing definitely delivers. For me it is perfect, but for others the 1/8 may be TOO subtle in regular conditions. I will say however that the bloom effect really shows through when a scene has a lot of direct light or very bright highlights. I also chose the 1/8 version because I wanted a slight artistic flare to my photos without feeling too intentional with the bloom. I will also mention that I don't have the ability to determine the filter's sharpness and while I suspect that it maybe lowers the sharpness of the overall picture by a tiny minuscule bit, for many of the pictures that I took I was more than happy with the quality that it produced. If you are concerned about the sharpness I would probably look into the Tiffen filters, but even with that, those filters are 6x the price of this one.If you are a starting out experimenting with filters and do not want to spend too much money, this is the one. There is so much fun and artistic capability that can be achieved with this filter that I keep it on my 23mm all of the time. Buy this filter!I included two pictures of a cyclops action figure and you can really see the effect on the flash light at the bottom left of the picture as well as the overall bloom on the figure itself. I also included a few other shots with very bright highlights.

I really like these filters they add just a little bit of organic vibe to your photos and video, without making dramatic changes. It just adds a touch of smoothing magic making your content look a little bit more film like, organic, and real without adding any obvious effect or reducing image sharpness. It also offers some dirt and fingerprint protection for your expensive lens.

I would stay far away from these. Finger-tightened Installed on my 24-70 sigma art and it literally wouldn’t come off… to the point where I had to take my lens to a local shop and the guy had to literally smash and break apart the filter to remove. These are made with ultra cheap metal and chances are when fusing to higher quality metal such as your lens, they are going to get warped and/or stuck.For about same price you can get the Neewer brand version of this and I’d say quality is the same if not better. (Tested both at 1/4 strength though, not 1/8 like these)Sucks that I can’t even return for a refund being that the filter had to literally be smashed apart to be taken off.

I always find myself favouring k&f products these days but these filters really are worth the money they add so much to the image if you’re after the more “cinematic†look I’d definitely recommend a pro mist filter how it works keeping the contrast but blooming the high lights is like magic 😂 I have used these on my latest short film once I have an upload I’ll add to this review

Der Black-Mist Filter hat meine Kameraaufnahmen auf ein neues Level gehoben! Ich wollte einen sanften, cinematischen Look erzeugen, und dieser Filter liefert genau das. Er sorgt für eine leichte Streuung des Lichts, was Highlights wunderbar weichzeichnet, ohne dabei die Details zu verlieren. Besonders bei Porträts oder nächtlichen Aufnahmen kommt der Effekt hervorragend zur Geltung, indem er eine subtile, fast magische Atmosphäre schafft.Die Verarbeitung des Filters ist top – er lässt sich problemlos auf meine Linse schrauben und sitzt fest. Per aggiungere un po' di magia ad alcuni video, specie girati in interni o con le prime luci della sera. Non ha nulla da individuare a marchi decisamente più costosi e blasonati. Tonalità neutra, quindi anche lato alterazione colori non ho notato nulla.
