This K&F matte box really elevates the look of your rig making it look a lot less discreet and a lot more like a cinema camera. The build quality is great made of mostly aluminum with additional mounting points on the frame including an additional cold shoe mount. The matte box mounts up to your lens using one of the few adapter rings (67mm, 72mm, 82mm, and 95mm) and what I really loved was that it retains the ability to use screw on filters. I am able to use the matte box with my variable ND filter and there was enough room to adjust the filter. However I was not able to use my pro-mist variable ND filter as the handle for adjustment stuck out too much so I could not screw it into matte box. Additionally you are able to use the included filter adapter to add 4"x5.65" rectangular filters (up to two but one filter frame is included). The carbon fiber top flap is light weight and holds it's position nicely with an adjustment knob on top that controls it's tension. The flap can also be folded down fully to act as a protective layer for your lens. This is such a nice upgrade for your videography rig and mounts up without having to use a rail system. I like that it retains the ability to use thread on filters and rectangular filters allowing me to still use my 82mm variable ND filter. At $45 (at time of review) this not only adds extra mounting points, a top flag, but it also makes your rig look a lot more professional and sometimes having a professional looking rig can help secure clients.

The K&F Concept Matte Box is a high-quality, lightweight solution for cinematic shooting, offering great light control and filter flexibility without adding bulk to your setup. Right out of the box, the carbon fiber top flag feels durable yet lightweight, giving your camera a professional look while effectively blocking stray light to enhance contrast and sharpness. One of the best features is the secure dual-filter system, which holds two 4x5.65-inch filters with a reliable locking mechanism—perfect for stacking ND, UV, or diffusion filters to fine-tune your shots. The ultra-thin 34mm profile prevents vignetting, even on wide-angle lenses down to 16mm, making it a great choice for DSLR and mirrorless filmmakers.Compatibility is a strong point, as it includes five adapter rings (67mm, 72mm, 77mm, 82mm, and 95mm), allowing you to use it with a wide range of lenses. The expansion ports (1/4”, 3/8”, cold shoe) add extra versatility for mounting accessories like microphones or lights, which is a nice touch for run-and-gun filmmakers. The protective pouch makes it easy to transport, and its modular design allows for future upgrades, including side and rail extensions for more advanced rigs. The only limitation is that it does not fit the Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 OSS lens, so be sure to check compatibility with your gear.Final Verdict:If you need a versatile, lightweight matte box with solid filter support and wide lens compatibility, this is a fantastic option for DSLR and mirrorless filmmakers looking to enhance their shots. Great build quality, smart design, and expansion options make it an excellent value!

I have two others in this price point from different manufacturers that I am comparing it to, and like the others, it has it's unique advantages and challenges.Overall the build quality is nice, and unlike the other two, this one actually uses some black velvet/felt material to maximize transient light bounce, but at the same time, the area it is used in is relatively small, so I am not sure how much more control it is adding. But it is an improvement over just straight plastic. The lens adapters are an aluminum, which is much more durable than the plastic ones at in one of my other kits, and adds to the overall feeling of quality here. The screw knob is, in my opinion, much easier to access and use than the lever type tightening of the unit I have been using most. I feel more comfortable that it is tightened, and it is much easier to access than a lever hidden behind the filter trays. This one also utilizes a screw knob for tightening the flag into position. It feels tight, and the part of the body that it screws into is metal, so it should last quite a bit of use.Where it starts to lose me a little is at the the filter tray. Firstly, if it accommodates two trays, why is there only one included? They are plastic, small and relatively thin, making them some of the cheapest parts to this kit, so why skimp on the second one? I found that frustrating and disappointing. I am also a bit concerned about the lever system used here. I think the idea and design is sound, but in execution, it utilizes plastic parts at area where the most expensive secondary pieces will go...the glass filters. When you undo the lever to open, the tray pops a bit, and my fear is that when the plastic ribs it uses for a friction "lock" eventually and inevitably wear down...your expensive filter will just pop off the front. If the lock mechanism was sturdy, and used a secondary lock of some sort, I would say this was the best in class...but I am just concerned about longevity. If you plan to ONLY put a UV filter in it as protection, and never swap the filters, then this is a really great kit. If you plan to swap filters to adjust to situations...I would maybe look at stepping up in budget a bit, or carefully select the system. The one I have been using up until now, and likely will continue on the camera I swap out filters, uses a slide lock system...and while still made of plastic parts, has the benefit of not just popping off the front if you didn't get that "click" lock fully engaged. This one comes with a nice protective bag that my others did not, and I really do appreciate that, as there are plenty of corners that could damage other gear, and damage this could take itself, if thrown into a go bag without being in its own pocket.Overall I think if you are using this with just a single filter and don't plan on swapping, this is an excellent option. I really appreciate both the black velvet inlay (more of a glued on piece tho), and the bag, and it is really easy to use and set up. Great value for dollars spent.
