The kite spool was amazing. I had never used one before and it it so convenient to use. I will never go back to flying a kite without a spool like this.

It keeps getting tangled up. It's a piece of crap. It must be from China

This kite string reel by TianYueFly is a big upgrade to the cheap bracket or spindle that comes with most kits. The included string is a very heavy test (though don't expect to use it in sport fishing), it is a bright greenish yellow and there's a lot of it at 1000ft (though I have not confirmed this). This reel isn't perfect:1. The plastic is a harder type than others, less flexible and likely more brittle. It feels as though it will break and or chip if you drop the reel onto pavement or bare floor.2. The reel as a string guide, which is useful. However, it is fixed in place, and does not guide the string across the surface of the reel, thus as you reel in the kite, the string builds up on itself and eventually can cause a tangle. I adjust the string's path in order to keep this from happening. If I were a less cautious user, or in a hurry for say a storm rolling in, I'd no doubt encounter tangles and frustration. A better design would be one with a reciprocating guide. This would alleviate this issueand I'd award it 5 stars, especially if the brittle plastic were replaced with something more sturdy.

Great amount of string, and easily unwinds to get the kite into the air, and then rewinds to bring it down.No problems figuring it out how to use. Really a great addition to any family that likes to fly kites for fun!

I found it a little awkward to use at first because Inever used this kind of unit before, but after a little practice, I really came around to like this spool.Looking forward to warmer weather to fly some kites with this!

In theory this looks like a great idea, but the first time I used this I learned why it isn't already common. The configuration has some major usability problems. When the wind is strong, it can become quite hard to reel in, the width of the reel creates quite a bit of leverage that narrower spindles don't suffer from. What you gain in speed you lose in mechanical advantage and the thing can become downright dangerous. After a strong gust almost tore off my thumb, I told my kids they weren't allowed to use it. Reeling it out under moderate wind also creates quite a bit of edge friction that, again, is dangerous to manage due to the leverage of the line. When the wind is weak, this thing suffers from a systematic design flaw that causes nearly impossible to fix tangles at any moment. If string loops off the side of a normal reel it simply, adds or subtracts line-twist. On this design, a single lost loop is an immediate knot centered at the eye. They could have fixed this with a hook-tension eye (allowing the line to be sliped out of the eye) but they didn't and you have to reverse engineer the slip or risk making the knot worse, all while the kite is in the sky. This defect alone is. bad enough to make the product unusable. I'm not even sure it could be fixed because a hook-tension eye would also change the reeling characterisics and make other failures possible.Overall, it's not their implementation which is servicable. It does nothing other than what its supposed to do. The problem is that the design cannot be redeemed. It is dangerous, prone to tangles, and unsuitable for kids or adults.

The reel has lots of cord. It reels in and out very smoothly, and the lock is much easier to use than others I have. The reel is large, and the colors are cool looking. The tip of the cord is ready to plug and play. Putting the fingers on the handle is easy; the wind can pull the string independently if I let it.If you are ordering this reel for a child, it is essential that the child learn to keep the reel straight. Otherwise, the cord will tangle because it will not reel back into place when the reel is at an angle, even if it is a small angle. A solution around this is to remove a large amount of cord to force the cord to reel back in when the reel has a wide lip. I believe a child around seven can learn to keep the reel straight.

I got this based on the recommendation of instead of using the normal hand wind up string thing that comes with kites. This makes it a lot easier to draw the kit in and let it out, much faster actually. One thing I wish this had been that when you reel the kite back in, it tends to pool the string up in the center rather than distribute it through the spool.I don't think I'd ever use all the line that is on this. At least not in my area without hitting power lines. If you have bigger hands it's a little harder to hold this as it's molded. Smaller hands would have an easier less fatiguing strain.
