So, this is a cocktail muddler, and it certainly would do that job just fine! The wood is smooth and has just a little weight to it, and feels good in the hand. The bottom is flat, which is good for crushing, with flattened, semi-curved edges, to both protect your glassware, and get to items at the edges of the glass.But I will be using this to pack fermented items. When fermenting kimchee or cabbage for kraut, you need a wooden pouncer for that. And this is perfect!The only issue I have is it having some sort of finish or stain on the wood.Since it is meant for cocktails, I am forced to assume this is a foodsafe item, but, I don't like assuming.I will wash it to death and treat it with lemon and salt, to get what I can off of it, then oil it back to protect it.But, it would be better without the woodsman, in my opinion.

This muffler is perfect for limes and herbs. It fits perfectly in my weighted cocktail shaker and is long enough and heavy enough to properly muddle cocktail ingredients.
