A really amazing book, very clever twist to knitting. Wont want to use traditional methods again. Excellent instructions. I highly recomment this book.

The fashions in this book are not current, and some of the yarns I tried to purchase were no longer available. Would be good if more explanation on yarns, getting gauge, and making substitutions.

Although this particular collection of garments doesn't have as many that I want to make as I would like, there is one sweater that I have made in two variations so far, and I will probably do one exactly like the pattern. I hate sewing, and after finally biting the bullet and stitching my knitted pieces together (and actually wearing the garments), I am so happy to be able to just knit, and be done. Sewing on a button is do-able.The pictures and instructions are clear and easy to follow.

The patterns are easy to make and walks you through making your own custom sweaters. I've already knitted three and had never made a sweater before.

I compulsively buy every top-down sweater book I can find. I was hoping this would be a good addition to my collection, but there is very little benefit to be gained by owning this book.First, what I liked about the book: the section on necklines and collars was good. I get tired of the old crew neck sweater, and this book has given me the idea to try a polo neck. Some of the sweaters are pretty and I think they can be used as inspiration.What I didn't like: everything else. The author claims her way of starting at the collar and avoiding any shaping of the neck is revolutionary. It's not. It's simplistic and makes a garment lie funny. Putting more stitches on the front than on the back couldn't possibly make up for no neck shaping. I myself do not mind going back and picking up stitches around the neck to make the collar. It gives a more polished look. You can tell by looking at the photographs that some of the models have the front of the sweater riding up on their necks. I want to tug down the front of my own sweater just looking at them! The sweaters with wider, deeper necklines look OK without any shaping.And the armpits on the sweaters are very deep. One reason for making top-down sweaters is so that you can try it on as you go. If you're already at the underam and you still don't have the required number of stitches, don't keep knitting! Just cast on the extra stitches at the underarms.I wouldn't waste my money on this book. There are only a few sweaters that are attractive enough to even use as inspiration, and the design information given leaves a lot to be desired.

I found this book in my library and made one of the sweaters. Then I made another one. And finally I bought the book. I love the top down procedure. It is the easiest way to knit a sweater and raglan sleeves make my shoulders look smaller. At my age, its all about looking smaller.

The patterns in this book are ugly beyond description. There is nothing here that I would dream of knitting either for myself or anyone I know. More importantly, since the attractiveness of a design is a matter of taste, the Carron book's instructional value pales in comparison with that of Barbara Walker's Knitting from the Top, which has been reprinted and is readily available. Walker's designs are often unattractive as well as dated, but her instructions leave the knitter quite capable of creating whatever s/he can imagine in seamless, top-down garments. Attempting to follow in Walker's footsteps is difficult. The Carron book doesn't come near to that standard.

I found this book useful and informative with various ladies sweater and cardigan patterns. Mostly in heavier yarn though I am sure can be easily be adapted to different weights. At the back are basic patterns for sweaters and cardigans in various weights of yarn which could be adapted with the addition of different stitch patterns, cable, lace etc. Has given me lots to think about along my new journey of top down garments.

Ho acquistato diversi libri e letto tante riviste sul metodo top down, detesto dover cucire , e devo dire che in questo ho trovato quello che cercavo; anche le foto sono belle e servono sicuramente come ispirazione per crearsi ciò che si desidera.Il costo è molto accessibile e ritengo che tra tutto quel che si trova in giro sia proprio da avere...

Bien qu'en anglais, les explications sont simples. A la fin du livre, pour diverses grosseurs de fil ou d'aiguilles, des modèles basic à adapter pour pull ou veste.

The content is clear and it explains well how to knit from the top.The nicest thing is at the end, where there is a section of basic shapes to knit in different gauges.I did not give the fifth star because the photos, sometimes, are not so alluring and there are all the different neck lines except the boatneck, which is my favorite!Anyway I think is a good book, it gives what is promised in the title and it explains in a clear way this technique.

Sono molto soddisfatta dell'acquisto. Spiega in maniera semplice la tecnica top down con modelli interessanti che si realizzano anche senza sapere troppo l'inglese (mi pare) grazie alla legenda che spiega le varie abbreviazioni.Un must per chi ama la maglia e vuole avvicinarsi a questa tecnica comoda (senza cuciture!!!)
