I installed a Capilano 3/16 too deep and used this part with a Kohler Short Stem Extension that slides over the existing stem and mounts to the existing as a replacement to the plastic one provided. No plumber, no mess, and quick solution.

If you need this piece you probably need the white plastic socket it fits into, which screws to the back side of the “shower knob†handle. The white plastic part will break before this part does. This block fits over the valve operator stem of a Kohler shower valve stem, to adapt the stem to a big one-piece “shower knob†handle. It is a softer metal than the valve stem so that its splines strip instead of the valve stem’s splines. The handle has a plastic piece that this piece fits into, that is designed to fail before this piece fails. This redundancy is unnecessary but that’s how Kohler rolls. Good on Kohler - replacing these parts is a lot cheaper than cutting out the enclosure and sheetrock to replace the shower valve in the wall.

Someone messed up on the measurements because though the stem fits on the valve, it doesn't fit on the inside of the handle. The opening and stem are exactly the size and do not actually fit together. Not even heavy enough to be a paper weight...
