Bottle cage bolt rusted and snapped inside of my bike frame, so I needed to drill the hole out and tap new threads. This tool got the job done in a situation I was worried wasn't fixable, so I'm very happy with it. Obviously for $11 it's not the highest quality tool in the world, but it works in tight places, and the ratcheting mechanism is neat as well, I'd never seen a tap with that feature before.

One use, and it broke. To be fair, it actually broke on the third tap, but that third tap was within the same 20 minutes on the same piece of metal. Having said that, though, I was tapping M6x1 into existing M5x1 holes in an aluminum piece by hand--is there anything that should be easier? This kind of quality and longevity is inexcusable. I would not suggest buying this for your worst enemy. I recommend Amazon remove this junk from their inventory.

I bought this thinking the racheting feature would be good. It is not. Tapping is usually a task of turning the tap some, backing off to clear chips, and then turning more. You can set this to the "middle" non-racheting setting, but my have kept slipping and switching on.If I had to do it again, I would get a simple tap handle. The chuck is fiddly as well, using knurled knobs that are hard to get tight.

I needed this for an M6 1.0 bolt hole that holds the headlight in a 1993 Mitsubishi Delica. It worked great for me and the headlight is now fully bolted in. I can't speak to the durability since I used one part one time but it did what I needed and the long handle was awesome for the fitment I needed.

If you're tapping plastic or softer it seems to work fine (tested on pla), but it was not able to tap aluminum extrusion successfully. M5 tap made it about 3mm into a pre drilled hole before stopping and had stripped its thread on closer inspection.
