These harmful elements cause abrasive wear to the polished shaft, upper seal & bushing. KYB Strut Boot Kits prevent these contaminants from entering the strut by covering the entire strut shaft in a highly durable plastic bellows. This can easily extend the life of the strut. The KYB Strut Boot Kit includes a poly foam travel-limiting bumper. It’s designed to protect the strut from bottoming out and protects other components from extreme movement damage.

Like most reviewers, I bought these with a set of KYB Excel G struts for my pathfinder. Installation was pretty straightforward, although the bump stop piece did fit pretty tight over the strut shaft. It does fit, you just need to put your weight into it. Time will tell how well this holds up, but if my review hasn't been revised down, then it most likely has been serving me well.

Get these if you are going to change your front struts perfect fit on the 335016 and 335015 for Nissan pathfinder which is what I bought them for. Needed to make the hole bigger where the shaft went into the boot. also put a little grease on to make it fit.Protects your shaft on strut.

This was installed on a 2001 Qx4 strut assembly. All this does is serve as a bump stop and protection to the strut piston rod (the shiney rod that goes in and out of the body of the strut. The bump stop is intended to protect the vehicle and strut from damage in the event of a "bottom-out", which can occur if your strut blows (ie. there's a leak or something internal to the strut has broke and can no longer dampen your vehicle) or you go over some sort of terrible bump or whole. I have never personally bottomed out any of my cars from average and common street driving. You should change your suspension soon at the first sign of sagging under normal loading anyway to avoid catastrophic failure of your strut. The piston rod boot protects the piston rod from debris, dust, sand, liquids, etc that comes into contact in normal driving. It seems that it would do a pretty good job at this as well. But, darn it if I have never seen a dust boot broken on a strut assembly anyway. Almost every car I've looked at, the dust boot dries out and cracks, so really it might protect it for the first few years of it's life, and sooner or later dry out and crack. That doesn't mean it's poor quality though. It's just what happens.None the less, I rated this a 4-star, just because it's really a low-maintenance item. If you need it, then get it. If you don't care about it and plan to use the "old" boot, go for it. In my personal non-mechanic opinion, using an old one or new one shouldn't really matter if all you're doing is some common commuting within cities. If you're an off-road advernturist, I'm sure you've already got better suspension parts anyhow.
