These harmful elements cause abrasive wear to the polished shaft, upper seal & bushing. KYB Strut Boot Kits prevent these contaminants from entering the strut by covering the entire strut shaft in a highly durable plastic bellows. This can easily extend the life of the strut. The KYB Strut Boot Kit includes a poly foam travel-limiting bumper. It’s designed to protect the strut from bottoming out and protects other components from extreme movement damage.

I'd consider this a very high quality boot. No, it's indeed not rubber, as many have mentioned on other KYB strut boot reviews. But quite frankly I think rubber boots tend to disintegrate and I think these would last just as long, if not longer. Rather, at least in my application on a 2004 Corolla rear strut, I had an issue with fit. The OEM boots come with a separate washer that is designed to press fit into the bumper in the top of the boot. This washer rests on top of a nub, or protrusion (not sure what to call it) that is maybe 1/2 way down the strut rod. This nub holds/suspends the boot by the washer. The difference with this boot from the OEM is that the bumper that fits inside the top of the boot press fits on the strut rod. When you push the bumper/boot down to the nub, the top of the bumper on this boot sits about 1/2" higher than the OEM boot. This makes it impossible to assemble the strut because there isn't enough room left to thread the shaft nut. I tried pushing the bumper *past* the nub and just have the pressure fit of the bumper hold up the boot. This allows you to assemble the boot, and quite frankly it would probably work just fine, but it bugged me enough such that I re-used the OEM boots, as they were still in good condition. If my OEM boots weren't reusable I would have used these, but the fitment could be better. As a side note I had ordered two of these. One was manufactured in Germany and the other in the USA. You could tell they were ever-so-slightly different, but so trivial as to be a non-issue. Probably well within design tolerances for the part.
