very handy connector to have. i'd been looking at local brick and mortar stores off and on since we put in our pond several years ago but never did find a connector like this. its great and now all those hoses that look to be the same size but aren't, now i can connect them in whatever configurtion i want. i am very happy with my purchase.*note as I found this works great on tubing/hoses that aren't too old and still have some "flex" to them. one of ours for our pond is around five years old and hard, no give anymore due age, the elements. consequently in this situation the connector won't work unless you replace the tubing. that said if it is so old it has become hard it is likely a good time to replace it and put new hosing out (which is what we did)and you will be good to go.

I thought this connector looked like a great idea but it ended up costing me $1000. I own a small auto repair shop and I used one of these hose connectors to bypass a leaking heater core. The truck was a 93 Ranger V6. After less than a week the truck was towed in with a blown head gasket, that I had to fix for free! The connector got soft when heated and lost it's round shape and the hose clamp just kind of fell off. All the coolant dumped and instantly overheated the engine. There is nothing in the ad for these connectors that warns against automotive use....but there should be. These things are crap.

This adapter is not all that is needed to couple two different sized tubing together, but its a start. We have a Beckett pump for our small pond. The inside diameter of the tubing that goes with this pump is 1/2". After a few months, I wanted to add on a UV clarifier. In retrospect, I wish I'd just gone with a pump that had a UV light as part of the setup, but, I didn't. (Nice to know though, if you're in the decision making stage. )After a LOT of dithering, I settled on the TetraPond GreenFree UV Clarifier. (5 Volt light, Designed for ponds up to 660-gallon, includes fittings for tubing 3/4-inch, 1-inch, and 1-1/4-inch)I just assumed (don't assume!) that I could easily find a tubing adapter by either TetraPond or by Beckett. No, I spoke with customer service for these companies, and they do not have what I needed to connect my 1/2" tubing from the pump to the UV clarifier that has a minimum size of 3/4" and goes up to 1-1/4".This Laguna Multi Hose adapter is the ONLY thing that I could locate to attempt to get the UV clarifier hooked up to my pump. In and of itself, it was not enough though. Yes, I could connect tubing, but no, absolutely not a watertight or even secure connection. On the end connecting it to the UV light, it was hard plastic fitting into hard plastic, and no way just adding a clamp to it would make any difference, because a clamp isn't going to have any effect on rigid plastic fittings. On the smaller end, a clamp is enough to attach the adapter securely to the water pump tubing, but, you still have to have a clamp. Just sliding the tubing onto it isn't enough to keep it in place.I finally went to the local ACE hardware store, and the guy there was really helpful. He cut two pieces of rubber hose (like 4 linear inches each) that fit the 1" connector part of the UV Clarifier, A clamp went there, onto that hose, to hold it securely in place onto the UV Clarifier valve. Then, this Laguna Multi Hose adapter went into the other end of the hardware store hose, and a clamp goes onto that end. After that, the tubing from the pond pump goes into the other end of the adapter, and another clamp. So, in total, if you're connecting something similar to what I was doing, there is an intake and output valve. Therefore that makes two adapters needed. If you're connecting this adapter to something that is made of hard plastic (this adapter is also hard plastic) then you will need two short lengths of flexible tubing so that a clamp will be effective, and then you will need three clamps per section you are coupling together. For my project, I needed to have tubing from my pump run to the UV light, and from the UV light back into the pond (waterfall) I bought a total of two Laguna Multi Hose Adapters, 6 hose clamps (in two different sizes) and two short lengths of rubber hose. And, it works perfectly, tubing coming from pond pump is clamped onto adapter, adapter is clamped into larger diameter short section of rubber hose, and that rubber hose is clamped onto the UV Clarifier. Then, out the output side of the clarifier, its the rubber hose clamped onto it, then the Laguna adapter clamped intothe rubber hose, and then the tubing from my pond clamped onto the adapter. If you are connecting two pieces of flexible tubing that are of different sizes, you would only need two clamps. (and one adapter) The need for the extra rubber hose was because there was no way to fit this adapter securely into a rigid plastic receptacle, it is not watertight, there are no rubber gaskets included, and it does not snap or screw into place. ]Once you determine where your connection will take place on the length of this adapter, you can cut part of the smaller end off of it so that it doesn't restrict water flow. It was not difficult to cut with garden pruning shears. I hope this helps.

Please be advised that the smallest tubing this adapter can be used on is 1/4" inside diameter, not outside diameter tubing. I didn't realize my 1/4" sprinkler system tubing was 1/4 OD, and thus to small to fit this adapter. I did come up with a solution. I used a piece of 3/8" OD tubing with 1/4" ID. The sprinkler tubing fit firmly into the 3/8th and the other end of the 3/8th fit firmly onto the adapter. I used a small clamp band on both ends of the 3/8th for a little assurance, not overly tightening them. No leaks!. Built a self-contained sprinkling bird bath from a large plastic flower pot and needed this adapter to go from the 1/2" ID tubing on the submersible pump to a 1/4" line of six sprinkling misters. The short piece of 3/8th and the adapter was perfect for the project.

I had my doubts, but it has worked perfectly to attached two hoses of different sizes without any leaks. You do need to cut each end to appropriate diameter. I used a utility knife then a small hack saw to cut to size.

You know how metric tools don't quite fit standard products. This fitting had the same problem. We ended up having to clue it to the tube and pump.

Did not work as well as I had expected. The gripping ridges do not provide enough tension to hold any of the tubing. It took using zip ties to fully secure it. I am hesitant on the hold lasting a prolonged amount of time.

It was easy to get the perfect size and make it fit into any connection. So glad I bought this.

The Laguna Hose Adapter was easily installed in a 1/2 inch garden hose with clamps on both ends.

You are really paying for convenience. Sort of. I had to splice 1 inch OD into 3/8 OD and those connectors do not grow on trees. Even the #1 Big Box store did not have those on the shelf. So, after you get over the shock and awe that it actually does what it claims, you have remove the adapter again and cut back both ends to the "next smaller" mark for the specific connection you just made. Otherwise you will have major flow issues. Everyone has their own fave method of cutting hard plastic so get yours ready. I used a rotary tool with a cutting wheel and sanded after. Not pretty. Worked. Originally when I saw the item I had a fantasy that I could just leave it as it was and move it from application to application as needed. But, as I said, that creates flow problems. You are going to have to do some cutting.
