This is only good for a small area, not a yard!

The assembly of the aerator was pretty simple. It took about 10 minutes to put it all together. I finally tried the aerator in my lawn as the temperature was down to promote grass growth. The aerator was lightweight enough to handle with just one hand.It worked as expected in a way. However, I think the holes are too small and the size of the aerator is too small to be efficient when working on a large lawn size. A larger aerator size will make it heavier, but it will help do the job faster. I also think the spikes can be thicker to get bigger holes to be more effective as aerator. The straight stand bar makes a little difficult to move with a foot on top of the aerator as I keep hitting my knee to the bar. Perhaps the bar can be angled to make room for the knee movement.I think this aerator is built and priced to work on a small-scale lawn. I could not confirm yet how effective this aerator is after using it on my lawn. But I am hoping it does work.

The holes were the screws go into on the handle bar, are not symmetrically aligned. This means the handle is off to the side.Poor quality check, but it still works.I'll most likely return due too OCD concerns.

I wanted to do some aerating in my back lawn, and I've tried some similar, but smaller, tools in the past, but having to hunch over just destroys my back. Considering this one seemed to be at a decent height for the handle, and it had significantly more spikes compared to another tool I've used, I decided to give it a shot. It came disassembled, so you've got to put it together first. The handle section bolts to a middle section, which then bolts to the bottom section with the spikes. Each individual spike also needs to be put through a hole, then a nut holds it on the underside. It comes with a couple stamped metal wrenches, but ditch those and grab ANYTHING else, as they barely function (they also aren't sized quite right for the heads of the spikes, so it's almost impossible to get them tight with the tools they give you). I did notice (similar to another review) that the handle is not perfectly parallel with the spike section, and is ever so slightly angled away/toward you on one side, and while that may just be a manufacture error, it may also be intentional? At least for me, if the handle was straight across, it'd run into my gut, as I use one foot on top of the plate to stamp down, so it's off to the side a bit. Having it be a bit angled means I've actually got room for my left hand when pushing down. Overall, it's still made OK, although I'm weary about the spikes potentially breaking off. They also aren't very sharp, which is fine, but if you have hard soil you're trying to break though, it'll probably just stop, unless you're able to jump on the plate or something. Still, it's a useful tool, and I'm glad to finally have one that works as well as this does.

This is one of those products that they ship in pieces to keep shipping costs down. Knowing that it's easy to use and put together. It's surprisingly durable and will stand as a valuable tool in your garden.

The problem with this set up are the buts provided with ensuring the spikes stay in place. I had 3 strip upon tightening BY HAND. That and the wrenches provided actually stripe the nuts out when used. I great idea that was ruined with cheap hardware.
