About this item

  • 5-pack of LED CV Patch Cables for 3.5mm mono mini jack sockets, suitable for Eurorack Modular Synths
  • One jack connector with a red LED for positive voltages and a green LED for negative, the other jack connector with green for positive and red for negative
  • Cable lengths: 11.8 inch (30cm) or 23.6 inch (60cm). The plastic connectors have a diameter of 7/16 inch (11mm).
  • Great for illustrating CV/gate flow in a patch, useful for both diagnostics and education
  • Flexible rubber-like TPE-coated cables with 28 Awg/1C pure copper wire and Spiral shield for high signal-to-noise ratio. Please keep in mind that the LEDs consume a small amount of power, which might affect the signal level.
  • Note: low voltage and/or very short signals might not make the LEDs light visible.

Product Description

Heinakroon was launched in 2018, and our focus is mainly on patch cables, cable hangers and other music studio utilities.

We currently offer a range of high-quality Eurorack patch cables and cable hangers, and we are continuously expanding our catalog with exciting new products.

Transparent LED Eurorack patch cables

5-pack, 30cm

Soft and flexible

The Heinakroon transparent LED Eurorack patch cables are manufactured with a soft and flexible TPE-plastic, that makes them very comfortable to use and gives the cables a nice drape.

Patchbay

Intuitive patching

The LED-lights are great for illustrating CV/gate flow in a patch, and are useful for both diagnostics and education. The soft TPE-plastic gives the barrels a nice surface for a good grip.

Connectors

High-quaility cables

The flexible rubber-like TPE-coated cables with 28 Awg/1C pure copper wire and Spiral shield for high signal-to-noise ratio. The cable barrels have red/green LEDs inside that lights up when running a signal through the cables.

LEDs

Note on signal quality

The LEDs consume a small amount of power, which might affect the signal level, and very short signals (in the nano second range) might not be enough to turn on the LEDs or allow the signal to pass through.

However, we have tested the LED cables with a range of different Eurorack synths, and also measured the voltage, and have not noticed any difference in CV pitch compared to regular non-LED Eurorack cables, down to a 1/1000 of a Volt (< 1 cent). But it's of course impossible to make sure they will work with every single module out there.

Environment

Our cables are made from TPE, which is easier and more energy efficient to manufacture than PVC or nylon braided cables. It doesn't require chlorine or other dangerous materials during the manufacturing process.

TPE plastic is non-toxic and won't release dioxins or other hazardous substances when incinerated. The low melting point of TPE also means it can easily be remoulded into new products.

I like using them. As the manufacturer states, they don't light up for some gear. They DO light up with my Behringer Brains, Surges, and Model 305 mixer. They don't light up with my Behringer 2600, Pro-1 or K-2. The audio quality is normal with no problems on all of those synths. I'll buy some more.

The product is as described, but the lighted feature is a bit gimmicky. The overall quality of the cable seems a bit cheap.

Its pretty neat to see your BPM flowing trough your signal path! These cables make for a fantastic light show, and set off a blinking modular system but I have a few issues.. one mainly being the price, being a good 50% higher in price than a regular non lighted cable. I understand they are probably higher due to material costs and the leds at the heads, but they are quite expensive overall, even to be a novelty item. The second issue is that I notice for some reason they don’t carry some voltages correctly, for instance some clock signals are weakened through them, or just some signals won’t transmit, where I can replace with a regular (non lighted) cable and the connection will work just fine. I have learned while using them to troubleshoot problems by first switching these out in case the signal isn’t moving properly. Doesn’t happen all of the time, but enough to be annoying. I was blaming myself for a long while until I noticed that when I switched with a standard cable, the signal transmission issues vanished. Third and final issue, the heads o these cables are relatively large, to accommodate the LED, I assume, but this prohibits proper use with a stackable cable, they can be forced but this caused undue strain in the connection, so I tend not to use them with stackables. No big deal. Now this may sound like I don’t like the cables, but I use them nearly every session, because I enjoy the visual indication of the signal being transmitted, they are a great learning and reference tool. I have purchased 3 sets, all in the smaller length, part in fear that the longer length with suffer more from the signal problems, and part because I just don’t need a light up cable that long. A pretty decent cable with a few large caveats.

Unusable. 2 stars for LED turning on only. The voltage drop is so significant that it renders the upper octaves unusable. They prevent envelopes from properly gating. All sound is reduced to a point where a maxed put preamp is required which introduces noises you do not want. Thinking about using these for clock signals? Nope, again signal is impacted and does not work properly. My hail Mary was to send the cv signal to an active multiplier…no better. Great fun idea that just does not work as you hope. Just don’t buy them, you Will be disappointed. I purchased 4 sets (2 of each length). Wasted my money, shorter length does not work any better, both have same issues.

Watch out with these, the LEDs work but the actual cables may or may not work with certain modules. One example is with the Doepfer A-140-1 ADSR. When I use one of these cables as the output, the Sustain stops functioning and gets set to maximum. At first I thought it was just the module but as soon as I used a regular patch cable, it worked fine. Another example is with the Moog Subharmonicon. When you use one of these cables as a CLOCK Input, the whole sequencer just stops playing. Once again, when I use a regular cable, it works perfectly.Just make sure you use regular cables first before you use these to make sure it works properly.

Works as described, I do wish the LEDs were a little brighter

The voltage drop on these puppies is significant. This is not bad if you are wanting to attenuate an LFO or random signal. Unfortunately, the drop is not predictable from device to device: a +5v signal from a Michigan XVI is attenuated to 4.2v, whereas a +5v signal from a Moog Mother32 is attenuated to 2.72v (!). The attenuation increases somewhat nonlinearly with the input voltage, so, for instance, the peaks of a triangle wave are rounded, and the peaks of a sine wave are flattened.

This is a tentative review. I give it 5 stars based on the fact that I tested them with LFOs, and all 5 cables have working LEDs on both ends. I have not tested other aspects (such as whether and by how much they distort the signal, - those were the observations of some reviewers). But I will do so in the future and alter my review as necessary should there be noticeable signal degradation compared to regular patch cords. I do find such complaints a little counterintuitive seeing how these LEDs are very dim and don't appear to be requiring a lot of voltage to operate, but time will tell.

Tout est dans le titre. La led informe si le courant passe ou pas et donne le type de pulsation ce qui est top pour comprendre son modulaire

Euroracks should be blinking, flashing, crazy looking machines. These cables add a lot of light to your rack. I use them for gate and trigger signals (I wouldn't recommend for pitch CV). I also use a clock divider and find the flashing LEDs do make it easier to see which modules are receiving which clock divisions quickly, so they are also practical.

Very cool. The lights work pretty well tho there is some 'off' time between the red and green, and when one end is red the other is green which is a shame. They are thick rigid cables and the plugs are quite large. Fortunately they are good for the purpose I intended; see pic; happy enough, but I would not want to use them in other places. Nice one...
