I’m very happy with this purchase, especially considering the price. It’s a well-made device, though the two "antennae" attached to it do look a bit odd. I’m using it with a Nikon Z9, and if it’s not clear, this isn’t a flash or speed light. It’s a constantly-on light source that doesn’t integrate with the camera electronically (cold shoe connection). You simply slide it into the shoe mount and use the wheel to tighten it.The tightening wheel can be a bit tricky to access, but that might be because I have larger-than-average hands. Once mounted, it’s easy to use—just long-press the middle button for 3 seconds to turn it on, and the same to turn it off. You can adjust the brightness across ten levels, although I haven’t needed to use this feature much. It definitely throws enough light for macro photography.I'm using it with the Z9 and the 105mm MC f/2.8 VR S lens, and the 14-inch version of this device works great. I suspect the 10-inch version might be too short to light anything effectively from any angle other than straight on, but I haven’t tested that model. If you don't care about any of that, it's an easy and affordable way to make your camera look like an alien.

REVISED REVIEW: A good idea for casual hand-held closeup shots at the minimum focus distance, with no need to set up off-camera lighting. But the too-short arms limit its applicability. An LED lens-mounted circular light ring does a better job, although with more setup required.ORIGINAL REVIEW: Seemed like a good idea for small macro photography work. But the arms are too short to reach the subject with my Sony 90mm f/2.8 lens. And even the brightest setting doesn't put much light on the subject. Probably won't return it; maybe find an alternate use.

I used this one time and then it died. I put it on the charger for 8 hours. The light never came in showing it was charging. When i removed it from the charger the red "needs charging" indicator light was still flashing when I pressed the power button on. I was hoping the charging indicator light was just not working, but nope. It turned on for about 2 min then died again. Very disappointing as the little bit of time I did get to try it I really liked it!

I had a nearly identical unit from Olympus for my E-M5 which took its power from the camera. When I upgraded to an E-M1 I was very annoyed that the new camera did not have the power connection to use this little light. Fortunately, I found this one which has its own battery and works with any camera. The arms are not long enough to work with an elaborate bellows rig but it works in most standard macro lenses, including the Olympus 60mm Macro. It does not put out a lot of light but you can normally use fairly long exposures when doing macro work. Color balance appears to be fine using the camera's auto-white. Two lights with individual brightness controls allows for nice shadow control. Finding something cheap and effective in photographic equipment is always wonderful!

I was skeptical as to whether this would provide adequate lighting and I am pleasantly surprised. Powered by a watch battery, this little rig works great! Works great for all my macro lens needs and is much cheaper than a lens light ring. The biggest pro is the portability and ease of use. Throw it in your camera bag and it’s a handy little tool!

I only used it once to test seems fine, but a bit front heavy for my camera cold shoe. I will install cold shoe units on bases to spare the camera for indoor macro. Outside, I will probably bring a small led flashlight to illuminate subjects. But the flexible arms are the main bonus whether on cam or not...
